Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala produced a monstrous performance at the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games on Saturday night, May 17.

Omanyala, who did not meet the expectations of many Kenyans at the Xiamen Diamond League, triumphed in the 150m race.

The win was a special one for Omanyala since he set a new Kenyan national record of 14:70 seconds over the distance.

The 29-year-old was well clear of his Terrence Jones and Matthew Boling, who finished the race in 14:93 seconds and 15:15 seconds in that order.

On the other hand, Alexander Ogando of the Dominican Republic was disqualified because of a false start.

Noah Lyles withdraws from the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games

Despite Omanyala’s brilliant display, most of the athletics fans were disappointed after the reigning 100m Olympic champion Noah Lyles pulled our of the race at the eleventh hour reportedly due to a minor injury.

These fans were eagerly anticipating to see Omanyala go head to head with the American runner for the first time this year.

Elsewhere, Akani Simbine secured the 100m title in a time of 9.86 seconds to continue with his incredible run this season.

The South African athlete, who defeated Omanyala in both the 2025 Xiamen Diamond League and the Botswana Golden Grand Prix, was followed by Nigeria’s Udodi Onwuzurike.

Favour Ofili breaks world record at 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games

Meanwhile, Udodi’s compatriot Favour Ofili produced the best performance of the day that saw her smash the 150m world record.

Ofili crossed the finishing line in 15.85 seconds and in the process became the first woman in history to deep under 16 seconds.

Ofili stated shortly after the historic achievement that she was surprised with the extra-ordinary performance.

“The Lord is good and its marvelous in my sight. It’s all God honesty. I’m surprised with the time.

But I know I have put in the work. I trust this program and I know at the right time the lord will do it,” she commented.

The second position went to United States’ representative Tamari Davis, who managed a time of 16:14 seconds.

Lastly, South Africa’s sprinting runner Wayde van Niekerk finished third in the 200m behind Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes and Jereem Richards.

Hughes clocked 19.55 seconds while Niekerk and Richards crossed the finishing line in 19.63 and 20.03 respectively.

Up next for Omanyala after the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games is the Rabat Diamond League that is set to be held on May 25 in Morocco.
