- Gor Mahia seek an immediate response after their first league defeat against KCB, with victory taking them back to the top of the SportPesa League standings.
- Nairobi United are chasing their first league win of the season after collecting four points from five matches.
- Nairobi United remain unbeaten against Gor Mahia in three competitive meetings, winning twice and drawing once.
The SportPesa League 2026/27 season serves up an intriguing encounter on Sunday as defending champions Gor Mahia welcome Nairobi United to Wang’uru Stadium in a Round Six fixture, with both sides having plenty to play for.
For Gor, the assignment is clear: return to winning ways and reclaim the top spot. For Nairobi United, it is another opportunity to demonstrate that their impressive record against the champions is no coincidence.
K’Ogalo head into the encounter looking to bounce back after suffering their first defeat of the league campaign, a 2-1 loss to KCB FC in Embu last weekend.

Charles Akonnor’s men had enjoyed an impressive start, collecting 12 points from their opening five matches after winning four consecutive fixtures before the setback.
However, KCB’s subsequent 1-0 victory over APS Bomet has moved the Bankers to 13 points, pushing Gor Mahia into second place.
A victory against Nairobi United would therefore take K’Ogalo back to the summit, making Sunday’s encounter particularly important in their title defence.
Nairobi United, meanwhile, arrive in Mwea still searching for their first league victory of the season. The Naibois have collected four points from five matches, recording four draws and one defeat.

Gor Mahia vs Nairobi United: What was said before the game
Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor was particularly disappointed with the manner in which his side conceded in their previous outing against KCB, insisting that better decision-making and a more organised defensive approach could have prevented the goals.
“We did well, but we were sluggish at the back in the first half. We tried to compete, but defensively we should have done better. The goals came from situations where we should have kept things simple and cleared the ball without complicating matters.”
Meanwhile, Nairobi United head coach Patrick Aussems has challenged his players to turn their competitive performances into victories, warning that they cannot afford to continue dropping points.
“We cannot continue dropping points. We have a good team, and we must start turning these performances into wins. Our supporters deserve better results,” he said.
Gor Mahia vs Nairobi United H2H
Nairobi United have emerged as a difficult opponent for Gor Mahia since their first competitive meeting, with K’Ogalo yet to register a victory against the Naibois.
The two sides have met three times in competitive football, with Nairobi United winning twice and the other encounter ending in a draw.
Their first meeting came in the FKF Cup final on June 29, 2025, when Nairobi United secured a 2-1 victory.
The teams subsequently shared the spoils in a 1-1 league draw on December 21, 2025, before Nairobi United claimed another victory, winning 1-0 on the final day of the season.
For Gor Mahia, Sunday’s encounter is an opportunity to respond to their first defeat of the campaign and reclaim the league summit.
Having already demonstrated their ability to put together a winning run, Akonnor will be keen to ensure that last weekend’s setback does not become the beginning of a difficult spell.
For Nairobi United, the objective is twofold: secure their first league victory of the season and extend their unbeaten competitive record against the defending champions.
