  • Gor Mahia will aim to redeem themselves after a midweek FKF Premier League defeat that dealt a blow to their title ambitions.
  • SEAL will be targeting three crucial points to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

Kenya record champions Gor Mahia will aim to redeem themselvesin their FKF Premier League midweek clash that saw them suffer a setback in their title hopes, as they travel to the SportPesa Arena in Murang’a on Sunday, May 18, to face relegation-threatened Murang’a SEAL at 3:00 PM

Gor surrendered three vital points in a 1-2 loss to 17th-placed Nairobi City Stars on Thursday evening at the Dandora Stadium.

The defeat prevented them from narrowing the gap at the top of the table. They currently sit third with 53 points, trailing Tusker (55) and leaders Kenya Police (58), despite both rivals also stumbling in their midweek fixtures.

With four matches remaining, the 21-time champions have little margin for error as they look to clinch their third consecutive league title.

Head coach Sinisa Mihic will need to rally his squad for a strong finish to the season.

On the road, Gor Mahia have shown resilience, going eight away matches unbeaten with four wins and four draws.

They will look to extend that impressive form against a Murang’a SEAL side fighting to avoid relegation.

Murang’a SEAL, currently 16th with 32 points, occupy the relegation playoff spot but are level on points with 15th-placed Mara Sugar and just one point behind both Posta Rangers (14th) and Kariobangi Sharks (13th).

With three matches remaining, they are still optimistic about retaining their top-flight status.

SEAL enter this match on a high after a commanding 2-0 victory over Sofapaka on Wednesday, courtesy of goals from Ally Yusuf and Harun Mwale.

They will aim to build on that momentum and secure a crucial win to climb out of danger.

However, their home form has been far from convincing.

SEAL have won just four of their 15 home games, drawn four, and lost seven. Nonetheless, they remain unbeaten in their last five home fixtures, which offers a glimmer of hope.

Yusuf Chipo optimistic of league survival

Reacting to their current position, SEAL head coach Yusuf Chipo said he remains optimistic about staying in the league, vowing to fight until the final day:

With three games remaining against Gor Mahia, FC Talanta, and Mara Sugar, we hope to collect at least six points. Two of those matches are at home, so we must prepare thoroughly. If we can earn points against Talanta and Gor while our rivals drop points, we have a strong chance to stay up. Statistically, we must win at least one match to feel safe.”

Dubbed the SportPesa Derby, with both teams sponsored by the betting giant, this fixture carries high stakes for both sides. Gor Mahia are chasing the summit, while Murang’a SEAL are desperately seeking safety.

The first leg of this encounter ended in a 2-2 stalemate, suggesting another tightly contested affair could be on the cards.

AFC Leopards vs Bandari FC

Elsewhere, AFC Leopards will travel to Mombasa to face Bandari FC at the Mbaraki Sports Club at 3:00 PM.

Ingwe are looking to continue their impressive form, having gone four matches unbeaten, as they seek to solidify their sixth-place position with 45 points.

Bandari, meanwhile, will be hoping to break a three-match winless streak and secure three vital points to remain in the top ten.

Shabana vs Mara Sugar

Meanwhile, Shabana will take on Mara Sugar at Gusii Stadium at 2:00 PM, aiming for their third consecutive win.

They currently sit fourth with 52 points, just one point behind Gor Mahia, and could potentially match Tusker’s tally if results go their way.

Mara Sugar, on the other hand, are hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, and three points would provide a much-needed lifeline.
