Harambee Stars prospect Zak Vyner is set for a spell on the sidelines after Bristol City head coach Gerhard Struber confirmed that the defender will be out for between three and five weeks with an ankle injury.
The setback comes at a time when Vyner has been enjoying a consistent run of games for the Robins and remains firmly on the radar of the Kenyan national team.
Vyner sustained the injury during Bristol City’s midweek English Championship clash against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The defender was forced off in the first half after an awkward challenge, raising immediate concern among the City coaching staff. Further assessment revealed ligament damage in his ankle, ruling him out for the short to medium term.
Providing an update ahead of Saturday’s fixture against Sheffield Wednesday, Struber explained the situation and admitted the club would once again have to cope without one of their key players.

Harambee Stars prospect Zak Vyner ruled out for up to five weeks at Bristol City
“With Zak Vyner, Zak is out for maybe the next few weeks with an ankle injury,” Struber said. “I think he has a small tear in the ligament in his ankle. He will be out between the next three and five weeks. We have to deal again with injury.”
Despite Vyner’s absence, Bristol City responded in impressive fashion at Ashton Gate, securing a convincing 2–0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday to return to winning ways after three league matches without a win.

City dominated possession for large spells of the contest and looked sharp from the opening exchanges.
Scott Twine broke the deadlock just after the hour mark with a rare headed goal, getting on the end of a pinpoint cross from Ross McCrorie, who was making his return from suspension. It was Twine’s eighth goal of the campaign and a deserved reward for City’s sustained pressure.

Sam Bell then sealed the victory late on, scoring his first goal of the season since returning from a loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers. Bell reacted quickest to a rebound after Sinclair Armstrong’s one-on-one effort was saved, calmly finishing to put the result beyond doubt.
Struber made four changes from the defeat to Ipswich Town, with captain Jason Knight returning to the starting XI alongside Cam Pring, Ross McCrorie and George Earthy, who made his first start since rejoining the club on loan.
City started on the front foot, forcing early chances through Pring and Twine, though Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Murphy Cooper produced a string of saves to keep the scores level before the break.

The second half saw City raise the tempo, and after breaking the deadlock, they continued to dominate proceedings. Bell’s introduction off the bench proved decisive, adding energy and directness to City’s attack.
The victory lifts Bristol City up to seventh in the Championship standings, just one point outside the play-off positions, and provides a timely boost as they look to build momentum.
While Vyner’s injury remains a concern, the Robins will take confidence from a commanding team performance that underlined their depth and resilience.
For Vyner, attention now turns to recovery, with hopes that he can return swiftly to action and remain in contention for future Harambee Stars call-ups once fully fit.
