Gor Mahia boasts revamped squad to reclaim top flight title

The 2024/25 season was a disappointing one for K’ogalo, as they failed to defend their championship, a title claimed by Kenya Police for the first time.

They also fell short in the Football Kenya Federation Cup (FKF Cup), which was won by Nairobi United.

Consequently, with the new season approaching, the record champions are determined to bounce back from that poor run and return stronger.

They have already signaled their intent to reclaim the title, making significant moves in the current transfer window.

The club began by overhauling its technical bench, now led by Ghanaian international Charles Akonnor.

He will be assisted by his compatriots Kobi-Mensah Bismark, and goalkeeping coach Ben Owu.

In addition to the technical changes, Gor Mahia has secured several high-profile signings.

They raided rivals AFC Leopards to acquire their assistant captain and defender, Lewis Bandi.

Further reinforcements include the signing of Siraj Mohammed from Bandari FC, who shone in the 2024 CHAN tournament.

The club also announced the acquisition of defender Michael Kibwage from Tusker FC and bolstered their goalkeeping department by signing Bandari’s standout shot-stopper, Bryne Omondi.

These are some of the most significant moves the team has made so far as they aim to strengthen their squad for the new season, especially after failing also to qualify for any Confederation of African Football tournaments.
