The organizers of the BMW Berlin Marathon 2025 have announced stellar men’s and women’s elite lineups for the event that is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 21 in Germany.
The Berlin Marathon 2025 men’s elite field is stacked with many big names including Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe and the defending champion Milkesa Mengesha of Ethiopia.
Sawe heads to the Berlin Marathon 2025 as one of the favorites due to the impressive performances that he has registered in recent months.
The 29-year-old made his full marathon debut at the 2024 Valencia edition where he overcame experienced runners to clinch the title in a fast time of 2:02.05.

Sawe, Mengesha have fastest PBs in Berlin Marathon 2025
After his success in Valencia, Sawe went on to dominate the London Marathon 2025, winning the title in a time of 2:02.27.
On the other hand, Mengesha cut the tape at 2:03.17 to win the Berlin Marathon 2024 title.
Apart from Sawe and Mengesha, some of the other athletes that have been confirmed for the Berlin Marathon 2025 are Daniel Mateiko (Kenya), Samwel Mailu (Kenya), Guye Adola (Ethiopia) and Haymanot Alew (Ethiopia).
Tanzania’s Gabriel Gerald Geay and Japan’s Kengo Suzuki will also be in contention for the prestigious title.

Rosemary Wanjiru to lead Kenya’s charge at Berlin Marathon 2025 women’s race
Meanwhile, Sawe’s compatriot Rosemary Wanjiru is expected to be the main attraction in the Berlin Marathon 2025 women’s race.
Wanjiru, who finished second at the Berlin Marathon in 2022, will battle it out for the title with the likes of the Ethiopian duo of Degitu Azimeraw and Mestawut Fikir.
Wanjiru has the fastest lifetime best of 2:16.14 in the entire women’s elite field, which puts him in a good position to win the Abbott World Marathon Majors marathon.

The personal bests of Azimeraw and Fikir stand at 2:17.58 and 2:18.48 in that order.
The Berlin Marathon 2025 organizers will release the full list of the women’s elite field lineup in the near future.
