Kenya 7s duo Patrick Odongo and Kevin Wekesa are set to fly out of the country once again – this time headed to Monaco, where they will feature in the month-long French 7s 2025 season kicking off in August, SportPesa Blog can exclusively confirm.
The two players, who made history back in June by becoming the first Kenyan athletes to feature in the inaugural edition of the Rugby Premier League held in India from 15 to 29 June 2025, will join Monaco Rugby Sevens in the 16-team professional rugby sevens competition in France.
While the highly rated Odongo is set to make his debut in the French competition, Wekesa will be returning for a second year running after playing for the same side in 2024 for the first time.

The two players follow in the footsteps of former Kenya 7s ace Alvin ‘Buffa’ Otieno who won the overall title with Monaco Rugby 7s in 2022.
In 2024, Wekesa emerged victorious during the third outing held in Pau and claimed silver in the second outing in La Rochelle.
Odongo and Wekesa will be joined by other professionals yet to be named by Monaco as they try to claim the overall title from defending champions Barbarian Rugby Club.
Their inclusion means the two players will miss local action in the ongoing SportPesa National Sevens Circuit 2025.
In the first outing, Wekesa helped his Kabras Sugar RFC side to a third-place finish in the Driftwood 7s while Odongo’s Daystar Falcons finished in 12th position.
