Kipchoge, who held the Marathon world record for more than four years, finished sixth in the event that was held on Sunday, April 27.

With a time of 2:05.25, Kipchoge failed to meet one of his targets which was to break the current men’s masters marathon world record of 2:04.15 that was set by his East African rival Kenenisa Bekele in 2024.

However, he was content with running a good race and trying to influence people around the world to embrace running.
“I am happy with the performance and the sixth position. I am happy actually with what I am doing. I am here not to prove to anybody in this world anything at all but to run with the Olympic spirit because London is the only city where by 1908, 1948 and 2012, those are the three times the Olympic Games has been done on this street.
The London Marathon speaks the Language of the Olympics. It speaks to the spirit and values of the Olympics. That is why I am here. I am here to support the movement of running,” he explained during the post-race interview.

Nonetheless, the Kaptagat based runner admitted that the second part of the race was a little harder because of the high temperatures.
When asked whether he felt nice to make progress after the disappointments of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games where he failed to finish the race, Kipchoge stated that it was awesome to cross the finishing line with the right values.
