KCB advanced to their second straight Driftwood 7s Cup final after overpowering the 2023 champions, Kabras Sugar, 10-5 in a semifinal clash played on Sunday afternoon at the Mombasa Sports Club.
This marked the second consecutive semifinal meeting between the two sides, with the Bankers completing a double over Kabras following their 15-10 win earlier in the 2024 edition.
As a result, Dennis Mwanja’s charges will be aiming to reclaim the title they narrowly missed last year to Harlequins.

They will now face Strathmore Leos, who overwhelmed Nakuru RFC 28-0 in a one-sided semifinal.
Chasing a successive cup final appearance, KCB drew first blood in the opening half through Floyd Wabwire, who raced down the left flank after latching onto a sublime offload, shrugging off Kabras defenders to score a try that put the Bankers 5-0 ahead.
The conversion, however, drifted wide.

Wabwire soon etched his name on the scoresheet once again with another unconverted try, stretching KCB’s lead to 10-0 by halftime, giving Mwanja’s side firm control of the match.
The second half saw Max Adaka’s side rally, with Lamech Ambetsa crossing the whitewash to narrow the deficit.
However, their resurgence proved insufficient as KCB held firm to secure their place in the Cup final, while Kabras will now battle Nakuru RFC for bronze.
Strathmore Leos crush Nakuru to book Driftwood 7s Cup final
Strathmore Leos dominated their semifinal encounter with Nakuru RFC, cruising to a resounding 28-0 win to secure their place in the final.
The Leos opened the scoring just five minutes into the match through Nygel Amaitsa, who capitalized on a slick offload from Barnabas Owuor to dart down the left wing and score under the posts.
A successful conversion gave them a 7-0 lead.
In the second half, Stanlus Shikoli widened the gap with a well-taken try, pushing Willis Ojwang’s men to a 14-0 advantage.
Minutes later, Victor Mola added to Nakuru’s woes with a converted try that extended the scoreline to 21-0.
Amaitsa then completed his brace with another converted try, sealing a comprehensive 28-0 victory for the Leos, who missed out on last year’s final after falling in the semis.
Strathmore will now take on KCB in a highly anticipated showdown, a rematch of the 2023 third-place playoff, where the Leos triumphed 29-12.
Driftwood 7s: 5th place semifinals
Defending champions Kenya Harlequins staged an impressive comeback after being eliminated by Nakuru RFC in the Main Cup quarterfinals, dominating Nondies 17-5 to advance to the fifth-place final.
Spectacular tries from Mathew Ouma, Ramadhan Museti, and Dennis Nyongesa propelled Quins forward, while a lone effort from Nondies proved insufficient as they now contend for sixth place.
Quins will clash with 2023 finalists, the Oilers, in the fifth-place showdown after the Oilers dismantled MMUST 31-0 in the other semifinal.
