According to the Kenya Prisons Service runner, qualifying for Tokyo 2025 means a lot to him.
“I am so happy because this is the sixth world championship for me. And, I am happy, because I have stayed in the 1500m for the longest time.
Now it is 10 years in 1500m, so, I am happy I got a ticket to go to the world championships,” explained Cheruiyot.
The 29-year-old added he has had a promising start to the 2025 season and it could get better if he improves on several areas.
“My season has been good. I trained well. I started well. I trained outside for a long time. But, I think my body is responding well. Now, I am injury free, so my focus now is to sharpen my body and then I hope I will run well in world championships
We have around one month until the world championships. So, I am going to work on my speed. I have endurance but I’m lacking a little bit of speed,” he commented.

Timothy Cheruiyot on team work at Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships
When asked whether he will work closely together with the other 1500m Kenyan competitors in Tokyo 2025, Cheruiyot replied that team work will be crucial.
As stated by him, his teammates, including Reynold Cheruiyot are capable of posting excellent results at the world championships.
“I think teamwork will work because Reynold is a strong guy, Komen is a strong guy. So, if we team up well, we can run well and bring our medals back home,” he stated.
