The 2026 SportPesa National 7s Circuit moves to Embu this weekend with the title race finely poised and the battle between KCB Rugby and Kabras Sugar once again taking centre stage.
The Embu 7s, scheduled for September 5 and 6, will be the penultimate stop on the circuit, leaving teams with little room for error as they chase valuable points ahead of the final leg.
So far, the season has produced a fascinating exchange between the two dominant sides.
KCB Rugby opened their account by winning the Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru before Kabras Sugar responded by lifting the Dala 7s title.
KCB then reclaimed the initiative at the Kabeberi 7s, where they edged Strathmore Leos 14–12 in a closely contested final to retain the title.
Kabras, however, had the final say at the most recent round, winning the Driftwood 7s and adding another trophy to their growing collection this season.
That sequence has ensured that the Embu 7s arrives with the two giants once again expected to battle for supremacy, but there is another storyline that could make the tournament particularly intriguing.

Strathmore Leos return to Embu as defending champions.
The university side endured a difficult Driftwood 7s campaign, making their performance in Embu an important opportunity to respond. Their struggles in Mombasa came only a week after they had demonstrated their potential by reaching the Kabeberi 7s final.
Their contrasting fortunes between Kabeberi and Driftwood make Strathmore one of the sides to watch in Embu. They will be hoping that a return to a tournament they know well can spark a turnaround and help them rediscover the form that took them to the Kabeberi final.
The Leos will also have extra motivation after being invited back into Division One for the Embu 7s following their relegation from the top tier at Driftwood.
They now have the opportunity to immediately bounce back and make an impact at a tournament where they have enjoyed considerable success.
KCB, meanwhile, will be looking to build on their position at the top of the circuit standings. Having already collected the Prinsloo and Kabeberi crowns, the bankers will be keen to add another trophy before the season reaches its conclusion.
Kabras will arrive with similar ambitions. Their Driftwood triumph has given them momentum, and another strong showing in Embu would put further pressure on KCB at the top of the standings.
Beyond the two leading contenders, several teams will be looking to disrupt the established order. Embu RFC will have home advantage, while the likes of Menengai Oilers, Kenya Harlequin, Mwamba RFC, Daystar Falcons and Nakuru RFC will all be targeting deep runs.
With just two rounds remaining, every match will carry greater significance. The battle for the title, the fight for strong circuit positions and the race for redemption will all converge when the Embu 7s gets underway.
