Murang’a SEAL head coach Yusuf Chippo has vowed to elevate the team to new heights after narrowly escaping relegation in the 2024/25 FKF Premier League season.

Battling for their third consecutive campaign in the top flight, SEAL delivered a spirited performance on Sunday, June 22, defeating the now-relegated FC Talanta 1-0 at the SportPesa Arena.

Victor Haki emerged as the match-winner for the Murang’a-based side, scoring the decisive goal that clinched the crucial three points.

The victory ensured SEAL, who were teetering on the edge of relegation, concluded the campaign in 13th place with 37 points.

Speaking after the match, Chippo expressed heartfelt gratitude to God, the technical bench, and the entire squad for their determined and resilient performance in the final stretch of the season.

I want to thank God that we have come to the end of the season. The most important thing is that we have not sustained any injuries in this match, and the game ended well. I thank God we have taken the three important points for us as the technical team, the players, and the entire SEAL family, he stated after the match.

The former Harambee Stars assistant coach acknowledged the challenges he encountered after taking over the team but believes this survival marks the beginning of a promising journey.

The journey here has not been easy since I came. I found the team in a bad state, but we continued to give ourselves hope and worked hard. I thank everyone, and I have seen the fans have been fully behind us. I appreciate them for the great support. I believe this is a new beginning for Murang’a SEAL going forward,”he added.

Chippo also revealed that their toughest encounter in the relegation battle was against Posta Rangers.

“The match that was toughest for us in this relegation battle was against Posta Rangers. We scored, but they managed to hold us and eventually defeated us. I thank God because now they are the ones fighting for survival in the playoffs,” he remarked.

Murang’a SEAL coach vows to propel team to greater heights

Chippo assumed leadership at SEAL in early April following the resignation of John Njogu. Since taking over, he has managed nine league matches, winning three, drawing four, and losing two.

Looking ahead, Chippo pledged that the team will not revisit the same struggles next season. He is confident about assembling a competitive squad capable of making a strong impact.

I thank the boys. We managed to finish the season in 13th place. It’s not easy to pull off that kind of performance. I believe that if we manage and organize ourselves well, what happened this season will not happen again.

We have a very good team. When you see a team like Gor Mahia come here and fail to get three points, it means we have a strong side. The team just needs a bit of reinforcement where we are not strong,”

Murang’a SEAL will now turn their attention to the Football Kenya Federation Cup third-place playoff, where they are set to face Mara Sugar.
