Murang’a SEAL head coach Yusuf Chippo is confident his team will defy the odds and avoid the dreaded relegation axe this season as they gear up for a high-stakes showdown against FC Talanta.
SEAL will host fellow relegation contenders Talanta on Sunday, June 22, at the SportPesa Arena, desperately seeking three vital points that could rescue them from the drop zone.
Although SEAL currently sits 17th on the league table with 34 points, Chippo remains optimistic.
The Murang’a-based side is level on points with Nairobi City Stars (16th) and Posta Rangers (15th), while trailing 14th-placed Talanta by a single point and Mara Sugar (13th) by just two.
Speaking to SportPesa Blog ahead of the decisive clash, Chippo emphasized the significance of the fixture, expressing that his squad is fully charged and morale in camp is high.
I thank God. Yes, this is our last match, which is very important to us. We are really preparing as a team to our level best to ensure that when we face Talanta on Sunday, we will get all three points and see what will happen next,” Chippo explained.
In the camp, the boys are very okay. They have the morale, they are positive towards the match, and we cannot complain about anything. We are focused and waiting for the eventuality of the game.”
Murang’a SEAL coach keeps tactics under wraps ahead of must-win fixture
While Chippo remained tight-lipped about his strategy, he affirmed the magnitude of the match, labelling it a “make-or-break” encounter. He assured fans that the team is meticulously preparing in every department to be fully ready.
I won’t disclose my tactical approach for this match because it is a do-or-die game. This is our biggest match on the calendar.
So, as a team, all we are doing is preparing thoroughly to ensure we meet all that is required in this match, contain them, and get the win.
I know on their part they are also preparing thoroughly, so we have to be intact as well. We wait, because this will be a big match.”

A promise to the Murang’a SEAL fans
The coach also reassured SEAL supporters that the team is committed to staying in the top tier and pursuing their long-term ambition of a top-five finish next season.
“To the fans of SEAL, we promised them that next season we will be working towards a top-five finish, so we want to keep that promise,” he reaffirmed.

Chippo’s impact since taking over
Chippo, a former Harambee Stars assistant coach, took over the reins at SEAL in early April following the resignation of John Njogu.
Since then, he has overseen eight league matches, recording two wins, four draws, and two losses.
Under his leadership, SEAL also reached the FKF Cup semifinals, where they were eventually eliminated by Gor Mahia.
“I appreciate the time I have been the head coach. It has been very entertaining and a very big challenge, because the moment I took over I realized there were things that were not right and some things were not at the level they were supposed to be.
I appreciate seeing the improvement now and the turn of fortune for the team, and how the boys have responded well. So the results are speaking for themselves. I believe we can finish on a high note and then sit down, reflect, and start preparing for the next challenge.”
The Murang’a SEAL vs FC Talanta clash is scheduled to kick off at 3:00 PM EAT.
