Kenya 7s fall to Madagascar again, set up tough Africa Men’s 7s semifinal clash with South Africa

Kenya 7s fall to Madagascar again

Kenya Morans have been handed a tough assignment after being paired with South Africa A in the 2026 Africa Men’s 7s Main Cup semifinal on Sunday morning at the SPARC International Rugby Stadium in Cascavelle.

On Saturday, the second-string Kenya 7s side managed to finish second in Pool B after securing two wins from a possible three, setting up a semifinal clash against South Africa, who topped Pool A.

The Morans kicked off the tournament on a high note on Saturday morning, smashing Namibia 34-12 before securing their second victory of the day with a commanding 19-0 win overRéunion.

However, their perfect run came to an end in the third and final pool match, which would determine the group winner, as they were brushed aside 26-0 by Madagascar.

The Morans were put to the sword by a hard-running Makis side that spread the ball wide at pace, creating space and putting their strike runners in excellent positions to capitalise on a glut of chances.

Madagascar scored through breakaway tries by Rado Randrianalisoa, Nomenjanahary Randriamalisoa, Jean Yves Randriamalala and Nambinintsoa Rakotovao.

To compound Kenya’s misery, Madagascar extended their dominance over the Morans to four consecutive matches in Rugby 7s. They had previously beaten Kenya 7-5 and 24-19 in 2024 before edging the Morans 14-12 in the 2025 semifinals.

Kenya will now have to regroup ahead of Sunday’s clash against the defending champions.

South Africa enter the semifinal not only as the reigning champions but also with a 100 per cent winning record in the group stage, having thrashed Egypt 38-0, narrowly edged Burkina Faso 17-10 and mauled the hosts 34-0.

Kenya last won the Africa Men’s 7s title in 2023, and that triumph could provide added motivation as they seek a record sixth title.

The Morans defeated South Africa in that final to lift the trophy and will be hoping for another memorable encounter on Sunday.
