- Eliud Kipchoge clocked 2:05.25 to settle for the sixth position in the 2025 London Marathon.

Road running icon Eliud Kipchoge produced an encouraging performance at the 2025 London Marathon that was held on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Kipchoge, who celebrated his 40th birthday on November 5, ran a brilliant race to finish sixth in a race that had many big names.

With the impressive display that saw him cross the finishing line in a time of 2:05.25, Kipchoge silenced his critics who wanted him to retire after the 2024 Paris Olympic Games where he registered a DNF.
The race started at a slow pace with Kipchoge and a number of East African runners including Jacob Kiplimo, Tamirat Tola, Sabastian Sawe and Alexander Mutiso running together in the leading pack.
Kipchoge starts to fade at 2025 London Marathon
However, as the race went on, some of the athletes including Kipchoge started to slow down, allowing Sawe to hit to the front.

Sawe, who won the 2024 Valencia Marathon title in a time of 2:02.05, went on to cut the tape at 2:02.27 ahead of Kiplimo (2:03.37) and Munyao (2:04.20).
The fourth and fifth positions went to Netherlands’ Abdi Nageeye (2:04.20) and Tola (2:04.42), who finished a few seconds ahead of Kipchoge.

Kipchoge cements his incredible London Marathon legacy
Regardless of today’s display, Kipchoge remains one of the greatest marathon runners of all time.
The Kaptagat based athlete has won more than 10 Abbott World Marathon Majors titles in his successful career with four of time coming in London Marathon.
Moreover, Kipchoge is a two-time Olympic Games champion having clinched those titles in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro and the delayed 2020 Tokyo editions.
Up next for Kipchoge is the highly anticipated 2025 Sydney Marathon that is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 31.
