It was an awesome day for Kenyan road race runners and their East African counterparts in the 2025 Boston Marathon.
These stars, led by the impeccable Sharon Lokedi and John Korir, cemented Kenya’s legacy as an athletics powerhouse at the 2025 Boston Marathon.

Korir produced a scintillating performance to win the men’s 2025 Boston Marathon title in an awe-inspiring time of 2:04.45.
Historic triumph for Korir in 2025 Boston Marathon
He was followed by Tanzania’s Alphonce Simbu and his Kenyan countryman Cybrian Kotut. The duo crossed the finishing line in 2:05.04 and were only separated by photo finish.

The win was a special one for the athlete, who hails from Cherangany, Trans Nzoia County, because it enabled him to match his elder brother’s Wesley Korir record.
Wesley, who was present in Boston on Monday to support his sibling, won the Boston Marathon title once in his career with the victory coming in the 2012 edition.

“I am always second to her and today I was like: there is no way. I just have to put it out there and fight till the end and see how it goes.
I am so glad I ran that fast and she was right behind me. We all fought and wanted this so bad,” she explained after the showdown.
This was Lokedi’s second Abbott World Marathon Majors win of her remarkable career after the memorable 2022 Bank of America New York City Marathon.
Meanwhile, Obiri, who was seeking to win the Boston Marathon title for a third time in a row, achieved a lifetime best time of 2:17.41 while Yehualaw clocked 2:18.06.
