- Despite being omitted from the squad, Omalla remains determined to maintain his performance, hoping for a call-up in the near future.
Kenya Rising Star Dancun Omalla remains undeterred despite being left out of the national U20 squad set to compete in the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, scheduled to kick off later this month in Egypt.
Omalla, the younger sibling of Gor Mahia forward Benson Omalla, has been outstanding this season for National Super League title contenders Nairobi United, netting an impressive 11 goals as the club pushes for promotion to the top tier next season.
Additionally, the ace striker has played a pivotal role in Nairobi United’s journey to the FKF Cup quarterfinals, contributing to their victories over Tusker FC and KCB in the round of 32 and 16, respectively, both secured via penalty shootouts.
With his club currently topping the table with 59 points and six matches remaining, Omalla revealed that his inspiration stems from his older brother Benson and a deep-seated desire to uplift his family’s living conditions.
My motivation to play comes from my older brother, Benson Omalla. I want to change my family’s background that’s the main thing that gives me strength whenever I step onto the pitch, pushing me to always give my best,” he shared after Nairobi United secured their spot in the FKF Cup quarterfinals.

Omalla’s Message to U20 teammates ahead of AFCON
Despite being excluded from the U20 squad led by head coach Salim Babu, the 18-year-old had a heartfelt message for his former U17 national teammates
I want to tell my former U17 teammates to represent the country well when they go to Egypt, and to showcase their talent on the continental stage—you never know who might be watching. It’s all God’s plan. I believe my time will come, and I’ll get the chance to represent my country,” he added.
Nairobi United chairman offers Omalla support
Though disappointed, Omalla remains optimistic and focused, believing that his current form merited a place in the final squad. He credits his club chairman Born Maina for offering perspective and support during this moment.
“For me, being left out of the final squad was disappointing. But my club chairman, Born Maina, told me not to dwell on it too much. Personally, I felt confident that I would make the cut because of my current form, but above all, I thank God He continues to open doors for me.” he concluded.
