The special thing about the display that Biwott posted today at the Paris Marathon was the fact that he improved his personal best by more than 30 seconds.

Biwott broke away from the leading group that had the likes of Djibouti’s Ibrahim Hassan and Sila Kiptoo with about seven kilometres remaining to the end of the race that was held in favorable weather conditions.

Biwott, who has become a fan favorite due to his rare ability to finish races with a sprint, was followed by Hassan.

Hassan clocked a national record time of 2:06.13 to edge out Biwott’s compatriot Kiptoo, who crossed the finishing line with a personal best time of 2:06.21.

Despite his heroic display in the difficult Paris Marathon course, Biwott was unable to smash that current course record of 2:04.21 that was set by his countryman Elisha Rotich in 2021.

Nonetheless, Biwott, who has only run two high profile races in his promising career, was over the moon with the achievement.

“Today was a good day. I did not think it would go so well. When I thought about the idea of pushing, I did it and my body did not let me down. It was tough but I went all the way,” he stated shortly after the race.

After the Paris Marathon, Biwott is expected to return back home, rest, train and prepare for the third full marathon race of his career.
