When is the 2025 London Marathon?
The 2025 edition of the London Marathon will be staged on Sunday, April 27. The event is the biggest road race in the United Kingdom and one of the top 10 ranked in the world.

This year’s London Marathon will take place a few days after the Boston Marathon which is also part and parcel of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. The Boston Marathon will go down on Monday, April 21.
Elite fields for the 2025 London Marathon
Many gifted road race runners are expected to take part in the 2025 London Marathon. Some of the experts have described this year’s elite fields as one of the best in the deep history of the London Marathon.
Women’s elite field
The women’s elite field has athletes who have conquered the world at different capacities. From world record holders to an Olympic Games champion – the entry is crazy.
Some of the star runners who have been confirmed for the race include the one-time winner Joyciline Jepkosgei and former mixed marathon world record holder Tigist Assefa.
Jepchirchir escaped with the 2024 London Marathon title in a women’s only world record time of 2:16.16.
The Kenyan runner, who is a one-time Olympic Games champion, pulled out of this year’s edition because of an injury.
On the other hand, Assefa has a personal best of 2:11.53, which she set at the 2023 Berlin Marathon where she set the previously mixed marathon world record.
Assefa, who hails from Ethiopia, also won a silver medal in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, making her one of the favorites to triumph in this year’s London Marathon.
The other heavyweights who are set to light up the 2025 London Marathon are the current Olympic Games champion Sifan Hassan and late addition Vivian Cheruiyot.
Hassan, who secured the London Marathon title in 2023, has a personal best of 2:13.44 while Jepkosgei’s lifetime best stands at 2:16.24.

Men’s elite field
Similar to the women’s elite field, the organizers of the 2025 London Marathon have also assembled a strong men’s lineup.
These stars include four-time London Marathon winner Eliud Kipchoge, Paris Olympic Games champion Tamirat Tola, 2024 London Marathon winner Alexander Mutiso Munyao, and the highly-rated Sabastian Sawe of Kenya.
Sawe clocked the fastest time last year when he crossed the finishing line in 2:02.05 at the Valencia Marathon.
Besides the trio, Jacob Kiplimo, who set the novel half marathon world record of 56.42 has also been confirmed for the 2025 London Marathon.

The women’s race at the 2025 London Marathon is planned to start at 11:05 AM East African Time (EAT) on Sunday, April 27.
Men’s elite race
The men’s elite race at the 2025 London Marathon will kick off at 11:35 AM East African Time (EAT) on Sunday, April 27 in England.
2025 London Marathon Prize Money
The winners of the 2025 London Marathon in the men’s and women’s category will each receive a mouthwatering prize money of $55,000 (approximately Ksh 7,122,500 as per the current exchange rate).
2025 London Marathon world record bonus
Moreover, any runner who will be able to set a new world record, will pocket an additional bonus of $125,000 (approximately Ksh 16, 187, 500).
The prize money at the 2025 London Marathon, similar to other road races around the globe, will be subject to the tax procedure.
Furthermore, the successful athletes will use the money to pay for some of the other expenses such as agent fees.
