Kenyan road race runners had a good outing over the weekend in different marathons around the world.
Some of these marathon runners managed to register a clean podium sweep while others finished inside the top 10 positions.

Betty Chepkemoi leads Kenyans to a podium sweep in Vienna City Marathon
As expected, Kenyan runners dominated the 2025 Vienna City Marathon that was held on Sunday, April 5 in Austria.
Betty Chepkemoi led her fellow citizens to the top three positions with others finishing fifth and seventh.

Chepkemoi, who won the race in a quick time of 2:24.14, was followed by Rebecca Tanui and Catherine Cherotich. Cherotich and Tanui crossed the finishing line in 2:25.18 and 2:25.45 respectively.
Meanwhile, Faith Chepkoech settled for the fifth position in a time of 2:30.00 behind German runner Fabienne Koingstein (2:28.49) with Risper Chebet (2:32.39) coming in seventh.
On the other hand, the 2025 Vienna City Marathon men’s title went to Haftamu Abadi, who cut the tape at 2:08.28.
The Ethiopian ace was followed by Kenya’s Mica Cheserek (2:10.23) and Mogos Tuemay (2:10.33) in that order. Tuemay also hails from Ethiopia.
Finally, the Kenyan quintet of Asbel Rutto, Edward Koonyo, Geoffrey Koech, Justus Kangogo and Felix Kurui finished fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.
Emmy Mutai and Levy Kibet triumph in the 2025 Movistar Madrid Medio Maraton
Kenyans also performed exemplary well in the Movistar Madrid Medio Maraton that was staged in Spain on Sunday.

Levy Kibet Chematot escaped with the men’s title in a personal best time of 1:00.45 with his compatriot Titus Kibet clocking 1:00.48 to finish second. The third place position went to Tanzania’s Daniel Sinda.
Similar to the men’s category, Kenyan Marathon runners also starred in the women’s race which was won by Emmy Mutai.

Mutai crossed the finishing line in a lifetime best time of 1:09.09 ahead of Diniya Abaraya (Ethiopia) and Nancy Sang (Kenya). Abaraya and Sang clocked 1:10.00 and 1.11.11.
