  • The final Pool B match will be against France at 11:00 AM on the same day.
  • Coach Wambua is pleased with the progress the team made in the Hong Kong SVNS.

The Kenya national 7s team, Shujaa, will kick off the sixth round of the HSBC SVNS Series 2025 in Singapore, facing Ireland on Saturday 5 April at 7:42 AM.

Later that same day, they will play against France at 11:00 AM in the final Pool B match at the National Stadium.

With no chance of finishing inside the safe top 8 positions, Shujaa will use the Singapore 7s to refine their skills ahead of the do-or-die Los Angeles 7s where the promotion/relegation playoffs will take place from 3-4 May.

Ireland is no stranger to Shujaa, having met them in the first leg in Dubai where Kenya triumphed 21-7 in the ninth-place semifinals. They advanced to the final, only to lose to Uruguay, finishing 10th in that leg.

As for France, fate has repeatedly paired them with Shujaa this season.

This time, Shujaa will aim to overcome the setbacks they’ve encountered against France this season.

The two teams first met in the opening match in Dubai where Kenya lost 24-19.

In Vancouver, they met again, with Kenya succumbing 33-7 in the fourth round. In Hong Kong, France blocked Shujaa’s path to the quarterfinals, defeating them 14-7 in their final pool match.

After five rounds, Shujaa’s best performance came in Cape Town, where they finished seventh, earning 8 points and moving up to 9th place overall.

However, Vancouver remains their toughest outing, as they failed to secure a single win in all their matches.

Hong Kong, while bittersweet, showed significant improvement from Vancouver, with Shujaa finishing 10th after narrowly losing 19-17 to South Africa.

Wambua gauges Shujaa’s progress ahead of Singapore 7s

Despite these challenges, head coach Kevin Wambua takes pride in the team’s progress, winning two of their five matches in Hong Kong compared to none in Vancouver within just three weeks.

He remains optimistic about their potential to build on their setbacks in the two remaining rounds.

Hong Kong was bittersweet for us. However, there was a big improvement from Vancouver. We did not achieve our set goals for the tournament but we were competitive in all the games we played.

Our three losses were by under seven points, which is something we can build on as we prepare for Singapore and of course the big one in LA,” said Wambua
