Former Kenya Simbas captain Brian William Nyikuli has bid farewell to South Coast Pirates after two years of service at the club.

South Coast Pirates bid farewell to coach Brian William Nyikuli after two years of service. The former Kenya Simbas captain joined us on October 10, 2023, as our forwards coach, bringing invaluable experience and leadership,” the club confirmed as they announced Nyikuli’s departure.

During his tenure, Nyikuli helped the Coastal outfit secure promotion to the Kenya Cup top tier for the first time, as well as clinch the 2023/2024 KRU Championship title.

“Under his guidance, we dominated the scrums, won the 2023/24 KRU Championship, and earned promotion to the Kenya Cup. His impact on the squad will be felt for years to come. We extend our deepest gratitude to Nyikuli for his unwavering dedication and wish him all the best in his next chapter!” the club stated.

His departure comes just a few weeks after the Pirates were relegated back to the Championship after a single season, having finished last in the regular season with nine points.

Nyikuli reflects on tenure at South Coast Pirates

Nyikuli, a former KCB player, did not hesitate to express his pride in the achievements during his time with the club.

“It has been an incredible journey with South Coast Pirates. When I joined, the goal was clear—to build a formidable pack and push for promotion. I am proud of what we achieved as a unit.

The players showed immense character and resilience throughout the campaign, and earning Kenya Cup promotion was a testament to their hard work,” Nyikuli told Citizen Digital.

Nyikuli renowned for his leadership both on and off the field, also praised the club’s fans for their unwavering support.

“The support from the players and club fans has been amazing. South Coast Pirates is a special team with a bright future. I have no doubt they will make an impact,” he added.

In addition to captaining the national team’s 15s side, Nyikuli boasts a wealth of experience in Kenya rugby, having previously played for Homeboyz RFC, Kenya Harlequins, Impala, and Strathmore Leos before joining KCB in 2017.

He retired from his playing career in December 2021 after an illustrious run.

His departure from South Coast Pirates marks the end of his coaching tenure with the team, as he looks for new opportunities in the coaching world.
