Gor Mahia
  • The Gor Mahia general election, alongside the AGM, will be held on April 13th, 2025.
  • The event is scheduled to take place at the Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium, starting at 7:00 AM and ending at 2:00 PM.
  • Candidates will be required to pay a non-refundable electoral fee.

Kenya’s record champions, Gor Mahia will hold their club elections in conjunction with their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on April 13, 2025.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium, starting at 7:00 AM-1400hrs, in compliance with the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) regulations.

The election will feature four positions, which will be contested on the day:

  1. Chairperson
  2. Vice Chairperson
  3. Secretary
  4. Honorary Treasurer

In a statement released by the club on Wednesday, April 2, the candidates interested in contesting these positions must meet the following criteria as stipulated in Article 11 of the GMFC Constitution (2019):

  1. The candidate must provide a valid national identity card or passport and be at least 18 years of age.
  2. A fully completed nomination form must be submitted to the electoral board.
  3. The candidate must be a registered club member, as only members with valid membership cards will be allowed to participate in the election.
  4. A candidate should have been an active member of Gor Mahia for a minimum of three years.
  5. Evidence of prior experience in a relevant role, such as a referee, assistant referee, NEC member, coach, or football administrator, must be provided.
  6. A declaration of support from at least 20 fully registered club members or 20 branches is required.
  7. Clearance certificates from relevant authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), must be submitted.
  8. Proof of payment of the nomination fee.

Additionally, candidates will be required to pay a non-refundable electoral fee, as outlined below:

  • Chairperson: KSH 500,000
  • Vice Chairperson: KSH 450,000
  • Secretary General: KSH 400,000
  • Honorary Treasurer: KSH 400,000

All nominations must be submitted online via email, with Friday, April 4, being the deadline for submission.

During a press conference held at Adasa Hotel in Nairobi last month, the incumbent chairman, Ambrose Rachier, introduced a five-member electoral board tasked with overseeing the elections with efficiency and transparency.

The board will be chaired by Gichu Wahome, founder and CEO of Sports Station Ltd.

He will be joined by Prof. Ben Sihanya, a Professor of Law at the University of Nairobi, who will serve as a member.

Henry Ogoye, the former Acting Managing Director of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), will also be a member of the board.

Additional members include Prof. Omondi Oketch, a linguistics expert and Professor of Language and Communication at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), and Rose Lilian Otili Anyango, who will complete the five-member panel.

This will mark the second time Gor Mahia (K’Ogalo) will hold elections, following the inaugural election in 2020.
