KCB Rugby booked their place in their first Impala Floodlit Tournament semifinal in two years with a sweet 31-24 revenge victory over holders Menengai Oilers on Saturday afternoon at Impala Grounds.
The Bankers were coming off two frustrating campaigns in the previous editions and were eager to settle old scores.
In 2024, they were knocked out by Kenyatta University Blak Blad, while in 2025 they fell to eventual champions Oilers.
The Ruaraka-based outfit delivered a commanding display to overcome a determined Oilers side, with their forwards laying the platform through dominant scrummaging and accurate lineout execution.

KCB held a narrow 21-19 lead at halftime in a closely contested first half, with both sides creating opportunities in attack. The second half saw the Bankers extend their advantage through disciplined play and clinical finishing.
Elvis Olukusi was instrumental in the victory, scoring two tries and earning the Man of the Match award for his outstanding contribution.
His performance provided a vital attacking spark as KCB looked to seize control of the contest.
Olukusi crossed over for his second try to stretch KCB’s lead to 26-19 before captain Brian Wahinya added the conversion to make it 28-19.
Wahinya then slotted a drop goal to push the score to 31-19, giving the Bankers a valuable cushion.

Menengai Oilers mounted a late fightback with a try to cut the deficit to 31-24, but KCB held firm to seal the win and advance to the last four.
KCB head coach Andrew Amonde praised the team’s collective effort, particularly the execution at the set pieces, while emphasizing the need to stay focused ahead of the semifinals.
“Our scrums and lineouts worked well, and the boys played as a unit. Everyone understood their role, and that collective effort was important in securing this result. We will now go back, review our performance and prepare for Mwamba. The semifinals will present a different challenge, and we need to be ready,” said Amonde.

The win ensured KCB booked a semifinal date with Mwamba RFC on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the same venue after Mwamba staged a remarkable comeback to edge out Strathmore Leos 29-16 on Saturday.
Meanwhile, in the other quarterfinal fixtures, KU Blak Blad were bundled out by a resolute Kenya Harlequin side, who denied them a last-minute try that could have swung the match. Quins progressed with a hard-fought 16-10 victory.
They will now face Nondescript RFC, who dominated the Ngong Road derby with a convincing 24-11 win over hosts Impala RFC.
