KCB Rugby set up 2026 Impala Floodlit final

KCB Rugby are through to the 43rd edition of the Impala Floodlit Tournament final, where they will face Kenya Harlequin after delivering a commanding 64-11 victory over Mwamba RFC in the semifinals at Impala Club on Saturday.

While KCB thrashed Mwamba, Quins, on the other hand, narrowly avoided a scare from Nondies, securing a 28-24 win to reach their first Floodies final since 2014 and set up another showdown with the Bankers, who beat them 30-3 in that year’s final.

The two sides will now meet at the same venue on Saturday, October 31, with KCB aiming to reclaim the title while Kenya Harlequin seek to end a 12-year wait to return to the title decider.

The Bankers produced an impressive attacking display, crossing the try line 10 times to overwhelm Mwamba, who started strongly before KCB asserted their dominance through a series of well-worked moves and incisive runs.

Captain Brian Wahinya led the scoring with accurate conversions, while Nigel Amaitsa, Branton Lusisa, Fortune Arturo and Emmanuel Opondo crossed the try line to help the Bankers establish a commanding 38-0 halftime lead.

The second half saw KCB maintain their attacking intensity despite Mwamba’s attempts to fight back. Lusisa completed his brace, while Festus Shiasi crossed twice. Elvis Olukusi and Stephen Osumba also got on the scoresheet as KCB sealed an emphatic victory.

Mwamba managed to respond with a penalty and two tries, but the Bankers’ attacking depth and clinical finishing proved too much for their opponents.

“We are pleased with the performance and the way the boys executed our game plan. The players showed good discipline, intensity and intent in attack, which allowed us to create opportunities and convert them into points,” head coach Andrew Amonde said after the game.

“However, we know the final will present a different challenge, and we must remain focused, improve on the areas that need work and prepare thoroughly for Kenya Harlequin. Our objective is to finish the tournament strongly and lift the trophy.”

KCB will now turn their attention to Kenya Harlequin, setting the stage for an exciting final between two sides eager to claim the prestigious Floodlit title.

“Winning by such a margin is a great confidence boost, but our focus now shifts to the final. Kenya Harlequin are a competitive side, and we know we will need to deliver our best performance on the day.

“We have worked hard to reach this stage, and the team is hungry to finish the tournament on a high note. We are calling on our fans to turn up in numbers and support us as we push for the title,” said Vincent Onyala.

Meanwhile, in the Plate Cup, defending champions Menengai Oilers thrashed Strathmore Leos 76-13 to set up a final against Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad, who ran riot with a 31-0 victory over hosts Impala RFC.
