Kenya is set to make history by hosting the inaugural FIFA Women’s Series at Nyayo National Stadium from April 11-15 2026, in a tournament that brings together women’s national teams from different continents.
The competition is part of FIFA’s new initiative aimed at strengthening women’s football by giving teams more international exposure and competitive friendly matches during official FIFA windows.
What is the FIFA Women’s Series?
The FIFA Women’s Series, introduced in 2026, is an international invitational tournament designed to create more competitive opportunities for women’s national teams across different confederations.
The initiative focuses on development, allowing teams that rarely face each other to compete and gain valuable international experience.
The 2026 edition is the first of its kind and is being hosted in four different countries, 3 different continents: Brazil, Ivory Coast, Thailand and Kenya, with each nation staging a four-team mini-tournament between 9-18 April 2026.
Teams Participating in Kenya
Kenya will host four teams: Australia, Malawi, India and host nation Kenya, with all matches taking place at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
AUSTRALIA
Australia’s women’s national team, popularly known as the Matildas, come into the tournament as the highest-ranked side among the four, currently sitting 15th in the FIFA rankings.
Coached by Joe Montemurro since June 2025, the Matildas boast world-class players such as Sam Kerr and Caitlin Ford and recently reached the AFC finals where they narrowly lost 1-0 to Japan.

MALAWI
Malawi, known as the Scorchers, are under the guidance of head coach Lovemore Fazili and are ranked 153rd in the world.
They recently made history by qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and previously lifted the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship, marking a steady rise in African women’s football.
The Scorchers boast one of the most lethal forward lines in the continent led by the Chawinga sisters.

INDIA
India’s Blue Tigresses, currently ranked 67th globally and coached by Crispin Chettri, have a rich history in Asian women’s football.
They were runners-up in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in 1980 and 1983 and have dominated the SAFF Women’s Championship with five titles.

KENYA
Hosts Kenya, famously known as the Harambee Starlets, will be looking to use home advantage to impress fans.
Under head coach Beldine Odemba, the team is ranked 134th in the world and recently qualified for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, marking only their second appearance in the continental tournament after their debut in 2016.Experienced forward Terry Engesha is expected to lead the attack.
