  • Shabana will visit Gor Mahia on Saturday, March 21, at Nyayo National Stadium, with kickoff set for 4:15 pm EAT.
  • Shabana are third on the table with 40 points, trailing leaders Gor Mahia by 13 points, who sit top with 53.

Shabana FC have been promised a cash reward of 1 million shillings if they beat Gor Mahia on Saturday in a high-stakes SportPesa League encounter.

Shabana will be visiting the record champions on Saturday, March 21 at the Nyayo National Stadium in round 25 of the season, with kick-off at 4:15 pm EAT.

While the stakes are sky-high and every side will be aiming to win, the Glamour Boys have been given a massive incentive by their club patron, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, who pledged 1 million shillings if they topple Gor Mahia.

“The Club Patron, HE Governor Paul Simba Arati, today met the team, offering encouragement and support. He promised a reward of 1 million if the team wins against Gor Mahia over the weekend,” the club statement read.

Shabana will be going into this clash seeking nothing short of redemption after crushing back-to-back losses which have hurt their title hopes this season.

After being thrashed 5-1 by AFC Leopards, they hosted Kariobangi Sharks next and narrowly lost 2-1 at home, results that have left them in third place on the log.

Currently, they are 13 points behind leaders Gor who have 53 points compared to their 40, while they are six behind second-placed AFC Leopards who have 46.

In addition to all this, Tore Bobe will be heading into this match with a very different setup on the technical bench after the club parted ways with Peter Okidi earlier this week following the Kariobangi Sharks defeat.

Now Shabana’s interim coach, Andrea Ongwae, faces an immediate test of leadership, tasked with restoring belief in a squad shaken by recent setbacks.

“The situation demands honesty,” Ongwae said. “We have stumbled in the last two matches, and we must confront that truth. My priority is to restore belief, instill discipline, and prepare the team for an opponent who punishes even the smallest lapse.”

Beyond the money, they will be doing everything to get back to winning ways and rediscover their rhythm as they hope to stay in the hunt for the title which, while still a long shot, is up for grabs.

In the 24 matches they have played this season in their third in the SportPesa League, Shabana have won 11, drawn seven and lost six. They have been struggling across all departments, having scored 29 goals while conceding 25.
