The Kenya national rugby 7s coach Kevin ‘Bling’ Wambua is feeling confident that Shujaa are up for the challenge ahead of the final legs of the 2026 HSBC SVNS 2 in Montevideo, Uruguay, and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The second leg is set for this weekend, March 21 to March 22, in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Speaking before they jet off, Coach Wambua noted that after the HSBC SVNS 2 Nairobi leg which was the opening round, they first had to conduct thorough reviews using match footage to identify areas that needed improvement.

“From the Series 2 tournament that was held here in Nairobi, our main objective, especially in the first week, was to carry out extensive video analysis and come up with a plan on areas we felt we didn’t execute as required. We also looked at what was working for us and how we could continue building on those strengths,” Wambua explained.
He added that they have been sharpening key areas a head of the second leg in Montevideo.
“Last week was typically our load week. The second week of our training block was our load week. We had a five-day camp in Kasarani where we drilled a lot of decision-making and attack frameworks, which was our biggest concern in the first leg.”
Kenya 7s coach Kevin Wambua upbeat ahead of HSBC SVSN 2 final legs in South America
Wambua stated that he is positive the lads have been responding well, and he is optimistic the team will handle this final round better than they did on home soil.
“I can say positively that the boys have really picked up well. If you look at this week’s training, it’s more tactical and technical. We’re just running through our plays and we’re executing them much better with much more clarity than we did in the first round.”

The former Shujaa player stated that their main focus is to remain in the top four and hopefully aim to earn promotion back to the HSBC SVNS 1 next season.
“As we head into the second leg in Montevideo, the goal remains to stay in the top four and give ourselves a chance to compete for promotion to SVNS 1 in the championships. I believe the boys are ready for the challenge.”
Shujaa are heading into these final rounds after having a decent outing on home soil -after all, they managed to finish third behind Belgium and the USA Eagles 7s.
Thus, they will be aiming to sustain that momentum and finish among the top four in both legs to keep their promotion ambitions alive.

Their second-leg campaign kicks off with a fiery rematch against the USA Eagles 7s on Saturday, March 21, at 6:32 pm EAT, and they will be eager to avenge their Nairobi loss.
After surviving a tight contest with Canada, they will face them again in the day’s second match at 9:20 pm EAT, then wrap up Saturday with a clash against Belgium at midnight.
