  • Gor Mahia, Ulinzi Stars, and the SportPesa Derby were among the key clashes headlining the 25/26 SportPesa League Round 10 talking points.
  • The SportPesa League 2025/26 season rolled into Round 10 from Saturday, November 22 to Monday, November 24.
  • Eight thrilling fixtures were staged across different venues nationwide.

Ten rounds of the SportPesa League 2025/26 are now complete, and the weekend produced a thrilling set of fixtures; four matches on Saturday, three on Sunday, and a standalone tie on Monday, played across various stadiums in the country.

Only two teams were absent from the weekend’s schedule: Nairobi United, who were slated to face the struggling newcomers APS Bomet.

Their absence was due to a commitment to their historic debut CAF Confederation Cup group stage match, where they ultimately fell 3-0 to Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco on Sunday night.

AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks also contributed to the excitement.

Gor Mahia extend unbeaten streak to seven matches as gate collections dip

The record Kenyan champions secured all three points in a tightly-contested 1-0 victory over the 12-time champions, Tusker, on Saturday at the Moi International Sports Center.

In a match where both sides traded promising attacks, Gor Mahia capitalised on a costly defensive error.

Tusker defender Collins Odhiambo’s misguided back-pass deceived his own goalkeeper, Brian Opondo, and trickled into the net just six minutes into the game- a gift that ultimately decided the contest.

The result sees the high-flying K’Ogalo, thirsty to reclaim the top-flight title, stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches.

This impressive streak includes six wins, with just a single draw and loss marring their campaign from the season’s opener.

The victory also consolidates their lead at the summit of the table with 19 points from eight matches.

They sit above Kakamega Homeboyz (18 points), who have played two more games, and are five points clear of rivals AFC Leopards (14 points), who have a game in hand.

The win provides a massive confidence boost ahead of a demanding week, where they will face APS Bomet on Tuesday before the headline fixture event of Kenyan football: the first leg of the Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards at Nyayo National Stadium.

However, the weekend presented one concern for the 21-time league champions: a significant drop in gate collections.

Saturday’s takings of KES 827,000 marked a steep decline from the over KES 1.3 million generated in their previous home match against Ulinzi Stars.

This puts the pressure on the club to ensure the upcoming Mashemeji Derby is a spectacular event, enticing fans to turn out in the massive numbers that filled Nyayo to capacity last season.

Kenya Police FC find their rhythm, deepening Mathare United’s inconsistency

The reigning SportPesa League champions, Police FC, secured back-to-back victories under their new head coach, Dusan Stojanovic, edging Mathare United 1-0 at the Police Sacco Stadium.

Aboud Omar scored the decisive goal, a strike that propelled his team into fourth place on the log with 14 points.

It was the third win for the new Serbian tactician, who has only suffered one defeat – against Gor Mahia, in his four-match tenure.

With several teams having already played ten matches, the Law Enforcers have three games in hand.

Victories in those fixtures could see them challenge for the top spot, though Gor Mahia also has a favourable two games in hand.

On the other hand, the loss was another setback for John Kamau’s squad, whose season has been plagued by inconsistency. With only three wins from their ten outings, alongside five losses and two draws, they find themselves languishing in 16th place with just 11 points.

Shabana & Murang’a SEAL share spoils in SportPesa Derby

Shabana are still searching for their early-season form despite extending their unbeaten run to three matches in a 1-1 draw with Murang’a SEAL at the SportPesa Arena.

They were left frustrated after letting a 1-0 lead slip away.

In a derby powered by the leading online gaming firm SportPesa, Wycliffe Nthata opened the scoring for the Kisii-based club in the 3rd minute.

SEAL’s John Kiplangat responded with an equalizer later in the first half, ensuring the points were shared.

While the draw extends SEAL’s own unbeaten run to five matches, their form remains a concern, with just a single victory in that period.

This leaves them hovering in 16th place-the playoff position with 10 points, piling pressure on coach Osborne Monday to steer them away from the relegation battle they narrowly survived last season.

Ulinzi Stars finally secure back-to-back wins

The Soldiers secured their first consecutive victories of the season on Monday, staging an impressive comeback to defeat Sofapaka 3-1.

Douglas Kibet had put the hosts ahead in the 9th minute, but Masita Masuta drew level before the break.

After halftime, Paul Okoth brace extended Ulinzi’s lead, handing Stephen Ocholla his second win since taking charge.

Ulinzi had endured a poor run of seven consecutive matches without a win, a spell that led to the departure of head coach Datsun Nyaudo.

However, these two successive wins have catapulted them from 16th place up to 9th in the standings with 12 points.

For Sofapaka, under Ezekiel Akwana, the season has been defined by inconsistency. This defeat marks their second consecutive loss, leaving them in 14th place with 11 points.

AFC Leopards’ three-match winless run: A concern ahead of the Mashemeji Derby?

On Sunday, Ingwe arrived at Kasarani Stadium desperate to return to winning ways after a loss and a draw in their previous two outings.

Their plans were disrupted when Humphrey Aroko put Kariobangi Sharks ahead, but Victor Omune salvaged a point with a later equalizer.

However, the draw was an unsatisfactory result for a team needing a morale-boosting win ahead of the first leg of the Mashemeji Derby on Saturday.

Coach Fred Ambani now faces the task of thorough planning his squad’s approach to counter Gor Mahia’s slick ball movement this season.

At the other end of the table, KCB, despite returning to winning ways, are in 13th place with 11 points, level with Sofapaka (14th) and Mathare United (15th).

Murang’a SEAL occupy the 16th-place playoff spot with ten points, followed by Kariobangi Sharks in 17th. APS Bomet prop up the table with just five points.
