The SportPesa League 25/26 entered its sixth round with a set of mid-week fixtures played from Tuesday, October 26, through Thursday, October 29.

Seven matches took place across various venues in the country, while two fixtures were postponed as four teams were exempted from duty.

The reigning champions, Kenya Police, had their match against Bandari FC rescheduled. The Law Enforcers were on continental duty in the CAF Champions League, a campaign that has now ended following their elimination.

The fallout from that exit was swift, as Police dismissed their Burundian coach, Etienne Ndayiragije, earlier this season. Having only played two league matches so far, they find themselves in 16th place with just four points.

Also engaged in continental competition were history-makers Nairobi United, who were slated to face KCB. The NaiBois have made a dream debut, advancing to their first-ever CAF Confederation Cup.

In their maiden SportPesa League season, they have played three matches, winning two and losing one.

With those four teams absent, the round-six headlines were stolen by Gor Mahia, whose title charge gained further momentum with a fourth consecutive victory and another clean sheet.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards came from behind to secure their second win of the season, handing Shabana a third consecutive home defeat.

In other drama, Stephen Ocholla received a harsh welcome at Ulinzi Stars, losing his first match in charge, while Tusker’s Charles Okere celebrated back-to-back wins.

Here are the talking points from Round Six of the SportPesa League 2025/26.

Shabana feel the heat of injury woes as they gift AFC Leopards a victory

When AFC Leopards travelled to Gusii Stadium on Wednesday, they were facing a team they had not defeated in all four of their previous meetings since Shabana’s promotion.

However, a late corner from James Kinyanjui ended that streak, with an injury-ravaged Shabana side conceding a costly own goal.

The result handed Ingwe their second consecutive win and extended their unbeaten run to five matches under Fred Ambani, comprising three draws and two victories.

• AFC Leopards beat Shabana FC 2–1 in a SportPesa League Round 6 fixture. • The match was staged at the Gusii Stadium on Wednesday, October 29. • The victory marked Ingwe’s second win of the season and extended their unbeaten run to five matches, while Shabana suffered their third consecutive home defeat.

Conversely, Peter Okidi’s squad continues to be plagued by a severe injury crisis, particularly the absence of their lethal striker, Brian Michira, who is expected to be sidelined for up to two months.

Despite taking an early lead through Austine Odongo, Shabana could not hold on.

Victor Omune had already equalized for Ingwe before the late defensive disaster.

The Kisii-based outfit has now suffered three consecutive home losses, having previously fallen to Posta Rangers and Mathare United.

These results see them trailing in seventh place with just seven points.

Okidi’s men must quickly identify and address their deficiencies as they look to bounce back – a turnaround the coach has vowed will happen soon.

Stephen Ocholla’s Ulinzi reign begins with defeat

Four-time SportPesa League champions Ulinzi Stars recently parted ways with head coach Dunstan Nyaudo following a disappointing start to the season.

The tactician had managed only one win, two draws, and two losses- a record that ultimately cost him his job.

The club appointed their former title-winning coach, Stephen Ocholla, on an interim basis.

However, the man who led them to glory back in 2010 started on the wrong foot, with his first assignment against an in-form Bidco United.

In a match played at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Thursday, the Soldiers suffered a 2-1 defeat. A consolation goal from Boniface Muchiri was not enough to overturn strikes from Collins Akite and Thomas Wainaina.

Ocholla now faces the significant task of revitalizing the team and steering them away from the relegation zone, where they currently sit in 15th place with just four points.

Gor Mahia: Impressive in defense, lethal up front

The intent of record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia to reclaim the SportPesa League title is becoming increasingly evident, as they secured their fourth consecutive league victory this season.

On Thursday evening, they visited Mathare United at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and emerged with a 2-0 away win.

Second-half goals from first-time scorers this season, Sharrif Musa and Bryson Wangai, sealed three crucial points for K’Ogalo.

The victory pushes them closer to the summit, sitting just one point behind leaders Kakamega Homeboyz, who have 13 points.

Furthermore, the 21-time top-tier champions have now kept four clean sheets in their last five matches since new signing Bryne Omondi took his place between the sticks.

The only goals they have conceded this season were in their opener, a 1-0 loss to Bidco United, when their former first-choice and currently injured keeper, Gad Mathews, was in goal.

The depth of Gor Mahia’s squad this season is formidable. The forward line looks sharp, while the defence, marshalled by Mike Kibwage and Silvester Owino, appears equally promising.

A particular standout is the promising left-back, rising star Bryton Onyona, whose amazing gameplay and energetic runs seem to have won the heart of Ghanaian coach Charles Akonnor.

SportPesa League 2025/26 standings after Round 6

Kakamega Homeboyz continue to lead the table with 13 points after securing their third consecutive league win, and fourth overall.

Gor Mahia, with a game in hand, sit in second place with 12 points from four wins.

Posta Rangers, who squandered a 2-0 lead to allow Murang’a SEAL to force a 2-2 draw, find themselves in third with 11 points.

In-form Bidco United, after their third win of the season, occupy fourth place, while Ingwe trails closely behind in fifth with nine points.

Kenya Police FC, having played only two matches, remain in 15th. SEAL, now four matches without a win, sit 16th with four points.

The struggling newcomers, APS Bomet, are in 18th place with just three points from a single victory.
