  • AFC Leopards snatch a point against stubborn Kariobangi Sharks in a SportPesa League Round 10 clash.
  • The match was staged at the Kasarani Stadium on Sunday, November 23.
  • Humphrey Aroko scored for Sharks, while Victor Omune equalised in the second half.

Just as he did in the first leg of last season, Victor Omune struck again as his side, AFC Leopards, snatched a point in a pulsating 1-1 SportPesa League encounter against Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday afternoon at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.

The skipper found the net in the 62nd minute of the match to cancel out the eighth-minute goal scored by Humphrey Aroko in the first half.

However, the draw meant Fred Ambani’s charges have now extended their winless run to three matches- two draws and a loss, leaving them in third place on the log with 14 points, five behind league leaders Gor Mahia, as they shift attention to the first leg of the Mashemeji Derby on November 30th.

As for the William Muluya-led side, who were under the temporary stewardship of Edward Seda while the coach is on international duty, the result left them in 17th place with just seven points from a possible 27.

The first clear chance of the game came in the sixth minute after a promising build-up from AFC Leopards. James Kinyanjui, operating down the left wing, found himself in a great position to unleash a strike, but his effort sailed over the bar.

Within a minute, Sharks surged forward on a swift counter-attack through the middle. That move led to the opening goal by Humphrey Aroko, who powered past Randi Bakari and Kayci Odhiambo on the right before firing a clean shot past Humphrey Katasi to take an early lead.

Sharks continued to test the Ingwe defense, and their next opportunity came in the 36th minute.

After Kayci miss-controlled the ball, Aroko pounced, drove into the box, and passed to Frankline Amollo, who hesitated just long enough for Katasi to make the save.

Ingwe created several chances, especially near the half-hour mark, but their inability to convert proved costly as a defensive lapse allowed the hosts to take a lead into halftime.

The second half began with a revitalized Ingwe side roaring forward with intent. They mounted numerous attacks resulting in corners, but couldn’t find the breakthrough early on.

Around the hour mark, Ingwe came close again. A well-delivered corner from Kinyanjui found Kelly Madada, whose powerful header was cleared off the line by Zablon Kutela in a goal-saving intervention.

Soon after, Sharks conceded a foul on the far right wing while attempting to counter. James Kinyanjui stepped up and delivered a fine volley into the box, where Victor Omune rose to head home the equalizer in the 62nd minute.

Both teams pushed for a winner in the remaining time, with the Slum Boys creating the clearer opportunities.

However, poor decision-making in the final third cost them, and the match ended all square, just as it did in the first leg last season. This marks Ingwe’s fifth draw of the campaign, and the fourth for Kariobangi Sharks.
