SportPesa League Round 7 Talking Points

Gor Mahia’s winning streak halted by Ulinzi Stars

The record Kenya champions needed maximum points from this fixture to secure a fifth straight win, a result that would have catapulted them to the league’s summit after log leaders Kakamega Homeboyz dropped points in a 1-1 stalemate with Tusker FC.

However, at Kasarani Stadium on Sunday evening, K’Ogalo found themselves frustrated.

Despite a bright start that saw them earn an early lead through Felix Olouch in the sixth minute, their momentum was broken.

A costly lapse in an exhausted midfield allowed Boniface Muchiri to surge forward and unleash a powerful long-range shot in the 34th minute, which sailed into the left corner.

This marked the first goal conceded by new custodian Bryne Omondi in his four matches, halting his clean sheet streak.

Gor Mahia fought to reclaim their lead but were let down by a lack of clinical finishing in the final third, ultimately dropping points.

They now sit second with 13 points, one behind Kakamega Homeboyz and one ahead of AFC Leopards.

Murang’a SEAL punish struggling KCB to shot into top ten

SEAL hosted KCB at the SportPesa Arena on Sunday afternoon, entering the match second from the bottom with just four points after a poor start to the season featuring four losses, a single win, and one draw.

Determined to turn their fortunes around at home, they clinched their second win of the campaign with a 2-1 victory over KCB.

This crucial result propelled them into 10th place with seven points.

Paul Osama opened the scoring, and Joe Waithira doubled their lead late on. A consolation goal from Robert Matano’s charges wasn’t enough to salvage a point for the Bankers, who endured their third consecutive loss and fourth of the season.

With only two wins, they now languish in 13th place.

Kenya Police FC still finding their rhythm

The reigning SportPesa League champions have played the fewest matches in the league -just three, and are yet to show the form required to defend their crown.

Of those three outings, they have managed only one victory and two draws.

On Sunday, they were held to a goalless draw by an in-form Posta Rangers at the Police Sacco grounds.

This result comes just days after the club sacked head coach Burundian Etienne Ndayiragije, who was shown the exit after failing to qualify for the CAF Champions’ League group stage.

The team will now look to bounce back under their new coach, Serbian international Dusan Stojanovic, who has already vowed to revive the squad.

High-flying AFC Leopards stretch unbeaten run to six

While Kenya Police remain unbeaten after a small sample of three matches, AFC Leopards are in genuinely impressive form, having now gone six matches without tasting defeat (3 wins, 3 draws).

On Sunday, they hosted Mathare United at the Nyayo National Stadium and picked up their third straight win, stunning their opponents 2-0.

Vincent Mahiga opened the scoring, and James Kinyanjui doubled their lead, ensuring Fred Ambani’s charges climbed to third place with 12 points.

They sit just two points behind Kakamega Homeboyz and one behind Gor Mahia, with a game still in hand.

If the team maintains this form, they remain a firm favorite to win a league title they have thirsted for for over two decades.

Unbeaten AFC Leopards are third with 12 points, level with fourth-place Posta Rangers, while Bidco United rounds out the top five with 11 points.

Shabana continues to struggle, sitting in the eighth place with eight points after being held by Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday.
