- Gor Mahia assistant coach Bismark Kobi-Mensah was left disappointed despite a 1–0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz.
- The Round 14 SportPesa Premier League encounter was played on Wednesday, December 17, at Kasarani Stadium.
- Alpha Onyango scored the decisive first-half goal.
Gor Mahia assistant coach Bismark Kobi-Mensah was left a disappointed man despite his side securing maximum points on Wednesday in a 1-0 victory against Kakamega Homeboyz at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Alpha Onyango scored the all-important goal in the first half with a superb finish from outside the box, delivering his team’s first win after a three-match winless run consisting of two losses and a draw.
The result saw the record Kenyan champions regain control of the league standings, taking the lead with 23 points.

They are now comfortably ahead of eighth-place Shabana, whom they lead by three points, while holding a narrow two-point advantage over the second to sixth-place teams, all tied on 21 points and separated only by goal difference.
Speaking after the match, the Ghanaian international stated that they needed the win to restore confidence, despite not executing as instructed during training.
“The win was very important to us. We needed it to lift the players’ spirits, regardless of today’s performance. Tactically, especially in the second half, we dropped too deep and allowed them to dominate,” he stated.

Kobi explained that the players’ key mistake was sitting back in a low block after the break, which allowed Kakamega Homeboyz to control much of the second half.
He believes the squad did not follow instructions, permitting Homeboyz to create opportunities that could have cost them points.
Pressure mounted in the second half. We have several tactical approaches to shift the gameplay, but the players consistently made poor decisions – whether taking shots or releasing passes.
I think they have the responsibility on the pitch to choose wisely. We saw it, and we are not pleased because we were under pressure. We had chances to score two or three goals, as a 1-0 lead is very slender, and we did not like how we ended the match,” he explained.

Gor Mahia, who are chasing their 22nd SportPesa Premier League title, face another crucial assignment in 2025 as they seek a second consecutive win against a resurgent Nairobi United on Sunday, December 21, from 4:00 PM.
“We are approaching each game as it comes. I think our supporters have something to smile about today, and our players do too. We must make certain corrections, and by Friday we will begin preparing for our next match,” he added.
