Round 14 of the SportPesa League 2025/26 delivered thrilling, action-packed matches across various venues in the country during the midweek.

The action began with a doubleheader at Kasarani, where Posta Rangers hosted Bandari in a goalless draw at the Kasarani Annex, while KCB came from behind to secure a 4-2 victory over APS Bomet at the Kasarani Stadium.

Wednesday served up four pulsating encounters. Shabana FC were held to a scoreless draw at home by Mara Sugar, while Tusker suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Nairobi United.

Thursday wrapped up the round with three matches that all generated talking points.

Kariobangi Sharks claimed a crucial 1–0 win over Bidco United, AFC Leopards overcame Ulinzi Stars 2–1, and Murang’a SEAL ground out a hard-fought 1–0 triumph against reigning champions Kenya Police FC.

SportPesa League Round 14 Talking Points

Kariobangi Sharks rise from the ashes

Kariobangi Sharks finally secured their second win of the season after nine weeks without a victory- a much-needed boost for the Slum Boys.

On Thursday, they faced another struggling side, Bidco United, at the Kasarani Annex and scored an 85th-minute winner through Humphrey Aroko to claim all three points.

Before this encounter, William Muluya’s squad had endured a difficult run, losing five and drawing three of their previous eight matches.

A lack of experience has compounded their struggles this season, but they will look to build on this result.

However, Thursday’s win does not lift them from the bottom of the table, where they currently sit with 11 points- two behind 15th-place APS Bomet.

Their next challenge comes against another struggling side, Sofapaka, on Monday, where they will aim to end the year with a third victory.

Murang’a SEAL end draw streak with statement win

Before Joe Waithira scored the decisive goal on Thursday at the SportPesa Arena to hand the hosts a victory over reigning champions Kenya Police, SEAL had gone five matches unbeaten but were winless, with all those games ending in draws.

This win not only marked their third victory of the season but also extended their unbeaten streak to eight matches- a gradual yet significant impact for the team, sponsored by leading gaming firm SportPesa.

SEAL now sits in 12th place with 15 points, having drawn six, won three, and lost four.

On Monday, they travel to Awendo Green Stadium to face in-form side Mara Sugar as they aim to make it nine matches without defeat.

Gor Mahia back on top, but questions remain

After a three-match winless run (two losses, one draw), the record Kenyan champions finally snapped that streak on Wednesday with a narrow 1-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The win propelled them back to the summit of the standings with 23 points from seven wins, two draws, and three losses.

However, despite the result, assistant coach Bismark Kobi-Mensah expressed disappointment, emphasizing that there is still work to be done.

This sentiment stemmed from the team being pinned back in the second half against Homeboyz, where the visitors nearly equalized and Gor Mahia missed clear chances.

They will now focus on finishing matches stronger as they prepare for their final 2025 fixture against another formidable side, Nairobi United, on Sunday at Dandora Stadium (4 PM kickoff).

Sofapaka sliding deeper into trouble

If any team has taken a drastic wrong turn this season, it is the 2009 SportPesa League champions, Sofapaka.

Under Ezekiel Akwana last season, they performed well to finish in the top ten, but their struggles this season, deepened on Wednesday with a 1-0 loss to Mathare United.

That defeat marked their sixth consecutive match without a win, leaving the team languishing in 17th place with just 12 points- only one above bottom-side Kariobangi Sharks.

Prior to this match, they suffered a 2-0 loss to Tusker over the weekend, a game marred by controversy over the opening goal, which led to the suspension of goalkeeper Edward Olak and goalkeeping coach Wilson Obungu.

Despite these changes, the team remains on a downward trajectory and must find solutions quickly to avoid relegation to the second division next season.

Their next match is against fellow strugglers Kariobangi Sharks on Monday at Kasarani Annex.

SportPesa League Standings After Round 14

Gor Mahia, having played 12 matches compared to 14 for some teams, seized control at the top after Tusker and Kenya Police dropped points in their respective fixtures.

They lead with 23 points but are not yet secure, holding only a three-point advantage over eighth-place Shabana FC (20 points).

They sit two points clear of a chasing pack of five teams on 21 points; KCB, AFC Leopards, Kenya Police FC, Tusker FC, and Posta Rangers, who occupy second to sixth place respectively, separated only by goal difference.

At the bottom, APS Bomet sits in 15th, level on points with 16th-place Ulinzi Stars in the playoff zone, separated by goal difference.

The relegation spots are currently occupied by Sofapaka in 17th, while Sharks anchor the table with 11 points.
