Shabana face Bandari in SportPesa League match week 2
  • Shabana FC will face Bandari FC in their second SportPesa League match this Sunday, September 28.
  • The match will be played at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa, kicking off at 3:00 PM EAT.
  • In another SportPesa League clash on Sunday, APS Bomet will host Murang’a SEAL at the Gusii Stadium from 2:00 PM EAT.

Shabana FC will be aiming to extend their promising start to the 25/26 SportPesa League campaign as they travel to face Bandari FC this Sunday, September 28, at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa from 3.00 PM EAT.

The Glamour Boys have journeyed all the way from Gusii land, buoyed by a commanding season opener at home where they brushed aside league newcomers APS Bomet 4-2.

Brian Michira led the charge with a brace while Derrick Otieno netted their fourth. The third goal was credited to Ezekiel Omuri, whose powerful shot deflected off an APS defender for an own goal.

Now in their third consecutive top-flight season since earning promotion in 2023, Peter Okidi’s squad has set their sights on surpassing last term’s fifth-place finish and mounting a serious challenge for their maiden top-tier title.

Their task, however, is a formidable one. They face a strong Bandari side eager to bounce back from a disappointing start. Last weekend, the coastal club was held to a goalless draw by Kariobangi Sharks at the Kasarani Annex.

Under manager Ken Odhiambo, Bandari is desperate to secure their first victory of this new Sportpesa era and improve upon last season’s eighth-place finish, which was marred by a prolonged winless streak.

Odhiambo has acknowledged his squad is grappling with significant injuries but remains optimistic about their chances of claiming maximum points on home turf.

“We have three injuries ahead of Sunday’s game: Ng’ang’a, who injured himself in the game against Yanga, we have Swaleh, who is 50/50; and Beja, who is suffering from a knee injury. Despite the injuries, I trust the squad that I have, and hopefully we can walk out with maximum points,” said Odhiambo.

Last season, Shabana held the upper hand in this fixture – collecting four points from the two encounters. The first leg ended in a 1-1 stalemate, while Shabana clinched a 3-1 win in the return match.

This encounter promises high intensity, with both teams having clear motivations: the visitors are chasing back-to-back wins, while the hosts are determined to open their account for the season.

APS Bomet vs Murang’a SEAL

While these two lock horns in Mombasa, another Sportpesa League clash will unfold at the Gusii Stadium. APS Bomet, who will now be hosting their matches at that venue, welcome Murang’a SEAL in a 2.00 PM EAT kickoff.

Both sides began their campaigns on a low note. SEAL suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Ulinzi Stars, while APS endured a 4-2 loss at the same venue.

The newcomers will be hunting for their first-ever top-flight victory, while SEAL, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, are equally desperate for a win to get their campaign on track.
