  • The match took place at Gusii Stadium on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
  • Brian Michira scored a brace, while Derrick Otieno added the fourth goal for Shabana.
  • APS Bomet also conceded an own goal and scored from the penalty spot, with their second goal coming from Hansel Ochieng.

Shabana FC picked up right where they left off last season, maintaining their impressive form as they comfortably dispatched newcomers APS Bomet with a 4-2 victory in the 25/26 SportPesa League opener on Sunday afternoon.

The fans lived up to expectations too, turning up in great numbers just as they did throughout the previous campaign.

They filled Gusii Stadium to capacity and were treated to a stellar display by Brian Michira, freshly returned from national team duty, who contributed his experience by netting a brace.

He opened the scoring just two minutes into the match and doubled the advantage ten minutes later with a calmly taken penalty.

Under relentless pressure from Peter Okidi in the attacking third, APS Bomet struggled to find their composure.

Their difficulties were compounded when they conceded an own goal seven minutes after letting in the second, essentially beating themselves.

The Tore Bobe boys dominated the entire first half, but APS was awarded a penalty in the 35th minute. Goalkeeper Bob Centric stepped up to take the spot-kick and expertly slotted it home, pulling one back before halftime.

The second half remained fiercely competitive, but it was in the dying moments that tension peaked. In the 89th minute, Michael Nam’s men narrowed the deficit once more through a well-executed set-piece, expertly finished by Hansel Ochieng.

However, their hopes of a late comeback were quickly extinguished. Just moments later, the hosts reasserted their dominance with a fourth goal, this time through Derrick Otieno, putting the result beyond doubt and sealing a memorable victory for Shabana.

Meanwhile, some miles away, Ulinzi Stars staged a late surge to snatch all three points, leaving Murang’a SEAL disappointed at the SportPesa Arena.

Paul Okoth emerged as the hero of the day, ensuring that Dastun Nyaudo’s side kicked off their SportPesa League campaign on a high note with a hard-fought 1–0 away victory.
