The reigning Kenya Premier League champions, Kenya Police FC, kicked off their maiden appearance in the CAF Champions League with a commanding 3-1 victory over Mogadishu City on Saturday evening at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Interestingly, while Etienne Ndayiragije’s squad appeared to be playing at home for this first leg of the 25/26 first preliminary round, they were technically the away side. The Somali team hosted the match on neutral ground, away from their homeland.

Super-sub David Simuyu, introduced later in the match, sealed the victory with a third goal, giving his team a comfortable advantage heading into the second leg.

The result puts Police FC in a strong position as even a draw next week at the same venue will be enough to see them through to the second preliminary round, where they could face either Jamus FC of South Sudan or Al Hilal of Sudan, with their sights firmly set on the group stage.

Nairobi United stage dramatic comeback to force 2–2 draw vs NEC FC

In 25/26 CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first-leg match, Shami Mwinyi Kibwana stepped up when it mattered most, scoring in the dying minutes to secure a vital 2–2 draw for Nairobi United against Ugandan side NEC FC at the Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo on Saturday night.

Also making their debut in a CAF tournament, the Nairobi-based side broke the deadlock first through Enock Machaka.

Cromwel Rwothomio equalized for the hosts in the second half, and NEC then snatched the lead through Paul Mucureezi, who converted from the penalty spot after a foul in the box.

Deep into added time, Nairobi United launched one final attack. A long ball out of their own half fell to Shami, who made no mistake and found the back of the net, clinching a dramatic 2–2 draw on the road.

The result means Nicholas Muyoti’s charges will have everything to play for when they host the return leg on Saturday, September 27, at the Nyayo National Stadium as they push for a place in the next round.
