23/24 FKF Premier League champions

Gor Mahia and Kenya Police are set to receive a huge financial boost of USD 50,000 (Ksh 6,524,569) each from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to help with their respective 24/25 continental assignments.

This is after the African football governing body announced that each team participating in the Preliminary Stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will receive USD 50,000 each in a new initiative aimed at easing the traveling and logistical costs associated with playing in club continental football.

“In line with the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe’s promise to improve club Competitions and provide more financial assistance to Clubs, the Clubs participating in the Preliminary Stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will receive USD 50 000 each,” CAF announced on Friday (16) evening.

The move will be the first time CAF offers financial assistance to clubs at the preliminary stage of the competition as clubs previously needed to reach the Group Stages to be eligible to share the overall prize money.

“The significant step by CAF addresses the long-standing concerns from Clubs on the travelling and logistical escalated costs associated with playing in club continental football.

This financial boost for preliminary round participants complements the existing prize money structure for later stages of both competitions. This move is expected to incentivize more clubs to participate in continental competitions and raise the overall standard of club football in Africa,” CAF added.

Gor, booked their ticket in the 24/25 CAF Champions League courtesy of winning the 23/24 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title and will face El Merreikh Bentiu of South Sudan in the First Preliminary Round.

The first leg match is set for Sunday 18 August in Juba while the return leg is slated for 25 August at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
