Prinsloo 7s Quarterfinal recap

Quarterfinal 1: Strathmore Leos vs Kenya Harlequins

Strathmore Leos opened their account early, with Stanluas Shikoli dotting down after a dazzling offload by Arnold Mola. The successful conversion gave Leos a 7-0 halftime lead.

Victor Mola appeared to extend the lead just before the break, but his try was disallowed for offside. After the interval, Leos picked up where they left off Samuel Wafula sliced through the left wing to score, though the conversion missed, pushing the score to 12-0.

Victor Mola redeemed himself with a brilliant solo effort, this time legally grounding the ball and extending the advantage to 19-0 after a clean conversion.

Nygel Amaitsa sealed the win with a fourth try in the dying seconds, slicing through Quins’ defence for a final scoreline of 26-0.

It marked a second consecutive quarterfinal exit for Quins, having also stumbled at Driftwood 7s last weekend in Mombasa.

Quarterfinal 2: Catholic Monks vs Mwamba RFC

Catholic Monks struck first through Duke Monda, whose converted try handed them an early 7-0 lead. Mwamba responded swiftly Norman Andobi crossed over and leveled the match after a successful conversion.

Just before the interval, Brian Nyamebeki powered over for the Monks, handing them a 12-7 lead at halftime.

Despite Mwamba’s efforts to claw back, CUEA’s resolute defence held firm as the Monks edged them out to reach the semifinals.

Mwamba now shift focus to the fifth-place semis against Kenya Harlequins.

Quarterfinal 3: Menengai Oilers vs Nakuru RFC

Fortune Oturo ignited the Oilers’ campaign with a strong finish, breaking through Nakuru’s defence to score a converted try and hand his side a 7-0 advantage.

The tightly-contested match saw Oilers’ defence hold firm throughout, with no second-half points but enough discipline to secure a crucial victory and progress to the Cup semifinals.

Nakuru RFC, aiming for a second consecutive semifinal appearance after Driftwood 7s, failed to breach the Oilers’ rock-solid defence despite repeated efforts.

Quarterfinal 4: KCB Rugby vs Kabras Sugar

The much-anticipated clash between fierce rivals KCB and Kabras Sugar didn’t disappoint.

KCB’s Floyd Wabwire, in scintillating form this season, continued his try-scoring spree by grabbing his sixth of the Prinsloo 7s, putting the Bankers 7-0 ahead.

Kabras responded with a brilliant try from Brian Mutua, though the conversion failed, making it 7-5 at halftime.

Wabwire struck again shortly after the break with an unconverted try, before Vincent Onyala added a third score to seal a 17-5 triumph.

It marked KCB’s second victory over Kabras this season, having previously edged them 10-5 at Driftwood 7s.
