Can Harambee Stars overcome former champions DR Congo?

Nonetheless, they will have to dig deep in order to stop DR Congo, who have won the CHAN trophy twice in the past.

The Leopards clinched their first title in 2009 before going to win it again in 2016 where they defeated Mali 3-0.

As for Kenya, who boast of many talented players, this is the first time that they are competing in CHAN.

The Harambee Stars were motivated earlier this week by President William Ruto, who promised to award them Ksh 600 million if they manage to beat the likes of DR Congo and go all the way to win the CHAN 2024 title.

Harambee Stars ace Abud Omar expects a tough tie against DR Congo

Meanwhile, Abud Omar, the Harambee Stars captain, revealed that he has had an opportunity to play against DR Congo in the past.

As stated by the Kenya Police FC defender, DR Congo are a very strong team who will cause them a lot of problems on Sunday.

“I have played with DR Congo three times. We played the first game in Machakos and then the next one we were in DRC. And the other one we played a friendly match in Spain. DRC has very good players. They are very strong.

So, I have experienced that and we take them very seriously because they are one of the teams that are supposed to win the cup. The favorites. So. I know it is going to be a very difficult game. We are prepared. We know tomorrow’s game is going to be very difficult but at the end of the day we are going to focus on us,” stated Omar.
