The road to the much awaited Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships just got more buzzing after Ethiopia released the list of athletes who will represent the country in the event that will take place in Japan between September 13 and September 21.

The star-studded team to Tokyo 2025 is made up of several big names including former 5000m women’s world record holder Gudaf Tsegay and the highly-rated Medina Eisa.

Gudaf, who failed to win any medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, is expected to double at the Tokyo 2025 championships.

The 28-year-old will compete in the 5000m and 10000m races where she will face off with strong women particularly from Kenya.

In the 5000m, Gudaf, who is set to work together with Freweyni Hailu and Chaltu Dida will battle it out for the coveted title with Kenyan rivals Faith Kipyegon, Beatrice Chebet and Agnes Jebet Ngetich.

Gudaf will also lock horns with Ngetich, Chebet and Janeth Chepngetich in the 10000m where she will be trying to defend her title.

The other members of the Ethiopian women’s 10000m team are Eisa, Fotyen Tesfay and Tsigie Gebreselama.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia has also assembled solid men’s and women’s marathon teams for Tokyo 2025 World Championships.

Assefa is joined by Sutume Asefa, Yalemzerf Yehualaw, and Amane Beriso in the women’s marathon squad while the men’s team has experienced runners such as Deresa Geleta and Tadese Takele.
