- CAF has increased the CHAN 2024 total prize money to USD 10.4 million (approximately Ksh 1.3 billion).
- The winner of the CHAN 2024 tournament will be awarded USD 3.5 million (approximately Ksh 452.2 million) in prize money.
- The delayed CHAN 2024 tournament will be held in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
For the nations competing in CHAN 2024, the motivation to go all the way and win the historic tournament has surged.
This follows the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to increase the CHAN 2024 prize money and in the process raising the stakes.
According to the organizers of the championship that will be held in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania between Saturday, August 2 and Saturday, August 30, 2025, they have increased the total prize money to a whopping USD 10.4 million (approximately Ksh 1.3 billion).

Amount of money Harambee Stars can earn in CHAN 2024
The increment ensures all the teams that will feature in the delayed CHAN 2024 including Kenya’s Harambee Stars will pocket not less than 25 million.
CAF recently disclosed that the countries that finish at the bottom of each group will receive $200,000 (approximately Ksh 25.8 million), meaning Harambee Stars can earn more money if they perform well in their group.
The Kenyan side has been pooled in Group A alongside North African powerhouse Morocco, Angola, Zambia and DR Congo.
Meanwhile, Group B has Tanzania, Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Central Africa Republic, and Mauritania while Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Algeria and South Africa will battle it out in Group C.

On the other hand, Group D has Senegal, Congo, Sudan and the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Should Harambee Stars go all the way and lift the coveted CHAN 2024 title, they will win a prize money of USD 3.5 million (approximately Ksh 452.2 million).

As stated by CAF President Patrice Motsepe, this is an increase of more than 50%.
“We are excited about the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2024 and have significantly increased the Prize Money of the Winner to USD 3.5 million which is an increase of 75%. We have also increased the total Prize Money of the CHAN Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2024 to USD 10.4 million which is a 32 % increase.
The CHAN is an important Competition for the development and growth of Africa-based football players and talented young players and will contribute significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF Competitions. This Competition is part of our strategy of investing in African football and making it appealing and attractive to football fans, TV viewers, sponsors, partners and other stakeholders in Africa and worldwide,” he explained.
The CAF 2024, which has been delayed several times, will be played in five venues across East Africa.
Some of these facilities include the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani Stadium, and the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

The MISC Kasarani Stadium, which is located in Nairobi, Kenya, will host the CHAN 2024 final while the opening ceremony will take place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
