Faith Kipyegon expresses optimism on Kenya’s 1500m future

According to her, she is very happy to see these youngsters doing well in various events across the universe.

“I am so happy to see the next generation coming up. Look at Nelly; now that I am moving towards the 5000m, Nelly is there to take the baton and continue with the 1500m victory because this has been our event for a long time.

And I don’t want to see us Kenyans losing the 1500m on our side. So, I know if I move now to the 10000m or 5000m, we have somebody like Nelly to take over. So, yeah, it is good to see strong women coming up. I am very grateful,” she told SportPesa Blog.

Kipyegon will represent Kenya in the 1500m race at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships 2025 alongside Chepchirchir, Susan Lokayo Ejore and Dorcas Ewoi.

In Tokyo, the Kaptagat based runner will be aiming to defend the title she won at the 2023 Budapest edition.

The mother of one has divulged that she will focus her energy on training in order to stand a chance of defending her titles.

“The target now is just to train healthily. I want to stay healthy, injury-free, towards Tokyo because I know I am going to double both the 1500m and 5000m. And I know it’s not an easy job to do – to double – but I hope through the training and preparations everything will be well.

Especially, you know, I am going to join a very strong team in the 1500m with Nelly, Susan, and the other lady. And then also in the 5000m, we have Beatrice and Agnes, and I’m so happy to join them,” stated Kipyegon.
