While a big international facility might not be constructed in the next few years, official statements from the Kenyan government, including the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and National Administration Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen, are painting a bright future for the Kamariny Stadium.

According to CS Murkomen, who paid a visit to the facility on Friday, July 25, 2025, the construction works at Kamariny Stadium have already started.

CS Murkomen reveals when Kamariny Stadium will be completed

Murkomen, who has previously served as the CS for the Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, revealed after evaluating the facility that it will be completed after 12 months.

“This morning, I assessed the construction of Kamariny Stadium, which has restarted after stalling for quite some time. I am confident that the new contractor on site has the capacity to complete the stadium on time and to the required standards.

The 10,000-seater facility, which will be completed in one year, will host ball sports and athletics. Hostels for athletes in camp will be added in phase 2 of the construction,” read part of his statement.

The unfulfilled Kamariny Stadium promise

Although the Kamariny Stadium continues to help many Kenyan runners such as Agnes Jebet Ngetich and Beatrice Chebet to reach their full potential, it has been embroiled in a continuous cycle of hope and disappointments.

Ambitious plans by the Kenyan government to transform this crucial high altitude stadium from an ordinary murram track to a modern stadium commenced many years ago.

Indeed, President William Ruto himself, promised the completion of many sporting facilities including Kamariny Stadium, often with timelines that were ultimately not met.

For years, the Kamariny Stadium has remained a muddy, skeletal structure, a situation that continues to frustrate many runners and the local communities.
