• Beatrice Chebet has asked the government to improve the quality of training facilities.
  • According to her, she is forced to move from Kericho to North Rift to look for a place to train.
  • Chebet will be seeking to win the elusive gold medal in the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

Double Olympic Games champion Beatrice Chebet has requested the Kenyan government to invest in training facilities ahead of the 2025 season.

Chebet, who won two gold medals in the recently held Paris Olympic Games, made the plea during an interview at her home in Iten, Elgeyo/Marakwet County.

According to her, the unavailability of standard stadiums especially in areas like Iten, Kericho, and Londiani is one of the biggest challenges that runners are facing at the moment.

“I would like to request the government to invest in Stadiums. Stadiums have been our major challenge. Although we are in Iten, it is not really that good. Kamariny and Kipchoge are also not 100 percent good, but Kipchoge is better for me.

I have to move from Kericho to look for a better stadium. For us in Kericho, we have the Green Stadium, now it has been renamed to Kiprugut Chumo stadium,” she explained.

The reigning World Athletics Cross Country Championships champion further asked the authorities to get rid of the stones at the Kiprugut Chumo Stadium since they have made the facility not fit to use.

“My plea as Beatrice, is for the government to build us a tartan track or they remove those stones that are on the stadium, we use it the way it was. For now, in Kericho we have a very big challenge when it comes to tracks.

We have to request the teachers training college to use their facility but they only give us the permission to train there on Tuesday and Thursday,” stated the 24-year-old.

Focus on 2025 World Athletics Championships

Chebet is expected to have a busy 2025 season, with her eyes firmly fixed on the eagerly awaited World Athletics Championships that is scheduled to be staged in Tokyo, Japan between Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 25.

Chebet’s husband Peter Bii, who doubles up as her coach, has disclosed that their main objective for the upcoming season is the elusive World Athletics Championships gold medal.

“I think the target for next year is the world championships. She doesn’t have a world championship gold medal and that is what we want to get,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Bii showered Chebet with praises, describing her as a woman with special attributes.

As maintained by him, the 2019 African Junior 5000m champion, is not only a great partner but also one of the most gifted athletes.

“She is an amazing wife. And I have seen a lot of people sometimes comment about her. But, people really don’t know her.

Sometimes people make comments or judgements when they don’t know someone. So, she is an amazing wife. I am blessed to have her because she is not only a great athlete but a great wife,” ended Bii.
