CHAN
  • It is less than three weeks to the kickoff of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), which Kenya is set to co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
  • The tournament will run from August 2 to August 30.
  • Musonye, the LOC Chairman, has called upon Kenyans to turn out in large numbers to support the Harambee Stars.

The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), Nicholus Musonye, has called on Kenyans to rally behind the national team, Harambee Stars, all the way to the tournament’s final.

With less than three weeks to go, Kenya, alongside co-hosts Uganda and Tanzania, has received official approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to stage the championship, scheduled to run from August 2 to August 30.

Kenya will play all their Group A matches at the newly renovated Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, where they will face Angola, Morocco, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Harambee Stars will open their campaign against DR Congo on August 3, take on Angola on August 7, lock horns with Morocco on August 10, and conclude their group stage fixtures against Zambia’s Chipolopolo on August 17, after a short break.

As Kenya finalizes preparations, Musonye who has spearheaded efforts to meet CAF’s stringent requirements, emphasized their ambition to deliver a tournament that not only brings national pride but also fosters unity.

We want to organize CHAN to promote and boost the image we have built since independence. CHAN is a platform to showcase our resilience and unity that we have maintained for the last 60-plus years,” Musonye told Citizen TV Sporty Monday.

He further encouraged citizens to show unwavering support for Harambee Stars, who will be making their first-ever appearance in the tournament.

Musonye expressed hope that with strong fan backing the symbolic “12th man”, Kenya can make a historic run to the final.

With government support, let us demonstrate that spirit of unity. Come to the stadium and support Harambee Stars all the way. We are hosting the tournament final. Do you want us to host the final without Harambee Stars?

It will not have the same impact. So we are asking all Kenyans to come to Kasarani on August 3rd, push Harambee Stars to win the first match, and carry that support all the way to the finals,” he lamented.

To ensure a seamless experience for fans, the government has already announced the ticket sales schedule.

According to Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, tickets will be available online starting Wednesday, July 16, with prices set at KSh 200, KSh 500, and KSh 1,000.
