How Talanta Hela opened tours to Kibet’s move to Celta Vigo
The Talanta Hela initiative, which was introduced by the former Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba, played a huge role in nurturing talents across the country, with players such as Kibet, Amos Wanjala and Louis Ingavi being some of the beneficiaries.
In the Talanta Hela programme, Namwamba, made sure players from different parts of the country had an opportunity to showcase their skills via the Talanta Hela regional tournaments.

In addition, he played an instrumental role to help the likes of Kibet and Wanjala to secure scholarships to the Spanish institution Nastic Sports Academy.
It was at Nastic Academy that Kibet continued to develop as a player before attracting the interests of several clubs including Celta Vigo.
Besides Kibet, Wanjala, who is one of the gifted defenders in the country at the moment, is on the verge of completing a transfer move to Elche.
The progress of these two players shows how crucial the Talanta Hela initiative was to the development of Kenyan football.
Fred Arocho credits Talanta Hela for Kibet’s transfer move to Celta Vigo
Renowned sports journalist Fred Arocho is one of the people who have praised Namwamba for the introduction of Talanta Hela.
“I would like to congratulate our former Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba because he launched a very good initiative, Talanta Hela, which used to give our players a chance to display their football talents in the rural areas.
Aldrine, I met him about four years ago in a tournament that was staged in Ruiru, and I remember he requested me to take a photo with him. He told me, ‘Arocho, please let us take a photo together.’ But now, I’m the one who is asking him for a photo. A hearty congratulations to Aldrine,” he explained during an interview on TV47.
Arocho also described Kibet as a brilliant footballer and the future of Kenyan football.
