Commonwealth Games champions Ferdinand Omanyala and Beatrice Chebet will lead Kenya’s charge at the 2025 Rabat Diamond League that is planned to be held in Italy on Friday, June 6.

Chebet and Omanyala will be seeking to continue with their encouraging performances in the fifth Diamond League meeting of the season.

Chebet, who recently set an African 3000m record at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday, May 25, is enjoying an excellent form at the moment.

Her performance in Rabat that saw her cross the finishing line in 8:11.56 – the second fastest time in history – was an indication of better performances to come in the remaining part of the season.

In Rabat, Chebet will compete in her favorite 5000m discipline where she is expected to face off with a talented pool of runners that include the reigning world record holder Gudaf Tsegay, Winnie Nanyondo, and home girl Nadia Battocletti.

Some of the other stars who will be in contention include Chebet’s compatriot Margaret Akidor, Burundi’s Francine Niyomukunzi and Josette Andrews from the United States.

Like Chebet, Omanyala has also had a promising start to the 2025 season where he has registered a couple of podium positions in the Diamond League.

He clocked 10.13 and 10.05 seconds to finish second in the Xiamen and Rabat Diamond League meetings respectively.

The “Beast from the East” as he is popularly known in the streets of Nairobi also managed to set a new African 150m record of 14.70 seconds at the Adidas Atlanta City Games.

Omanyala’s latest outing that came at the 2025 Kip Keino Classic saw him finish third in a time of 10.07 seconds. He was beaten by Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy and Bayanda Walaza in that race that took place at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Saturday, May 31.

The man, who is yet to clock a sub 10.00 seconds in 2025, will race against the likes of the American trio of Courtney Lindsey, Brandon Hicklin and Trayvon Bromell in Rome Diamond League.

Besides Chebet, Akidor, and Omanyala, the other Kenyan athletes that are set to feature in Rome Diamond League include Brian Komen, Timothy Cheruiyot, Reynold Cheruiyot, Purity Chepkirui, and Susan Lokayo Ejore.
