According to Chebet, her focus at the moment is at the upcoming World Athletics Championships rather than smashing world records.

“For now, I just want to race good. When I feel the body is in a position to chase a world record, I will try. When it is not there, time will come.

So, for now, the main goal is the World Championships,” explained the reigning 5000m and 10000m Olympic Games champion.

Beatrice Chebet explains how she approached the race

When asked whether she was confident going into the last lap of the race that had more than five Ethiopians, Chebet stated that she was not certain.

“Not really because the season is still new and I was not sure where the body is, so I just said let me start my season well, let me try to push because having a lot of Ethiopians, and with two Kenyans it’s not easy.

We were trying to see how tactful the race was but I thank God I managed to run good and I am seeing my speed is there, my 200m reaction is there, so going back for more training, prepare well, focus on the World Championships,” commented the 25-year-old.
