- Beatrice Chebet won the 5000m women’s title at the 2025 Xiamen Diamond League in a meeting record time of 14:27.12.
- Chebet was followed by Ethiopian runners Gudaf Tsegay and Birke Haylom.
- Chebet’s compatriot Ferdinand Omanyala finished second in the 100m discipline in the 2025 Xiamen Diamond League.
Two-time Olympic Games champion Beatrice Chebet has humbled her Ethiopian rivals at the ongoing Xiamen Diamond League in China.
Chebet, who holds a couple of world records, produced a remarkable display to run away with the 2025 Xiamen Diamond League 5000m title.

Chebet, who entered the 2025 Xiamen Diamond League meet as on of the favorites, ran a tactical race that saw her unleash a killer kick in the last lap of the race which helped her to break down Gudaf Tsegay.
The reigning 10000m Olympic Games champion went on to cross the finishing line in a meeting record time of 14:27.12.

Chebet was followed by the current 5000m world record holder Tsegay and Birke Haylom.
The two Ethiopians crossed the finishing line in season bests times of 14:28.18 and 14:28.80 respectively.
The fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh positions also went to Ethiopians Hirut Meshesha, Likina Amebaw, Asayech Ayichew and Mebratu Aynadis in that order with Kenya’s Caroline Nyaga settling for the eighth position.

Meanwhile, the reigning African 100m record holder Ferdinand Omanyala clocked 10:13 seconds to finish behind his South African opponent Akani Simbine.
Simbine, who also defeated Omanyala at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix on April 12, won the 2025 Xiamen 100m title in a time of 9.99 seconds.

The that position went to Great Britain’s Azu Jeremiah while American sprinter Christian Coleman (10.18) and his Australian counterpart Lachlan Kennedy (10.18) crossed the finishing line in fourth and fifth positions respectively.
